Sprain under big toe aka ''Turf Toe'', anyone else had it?

So I picked up this injury during a bit of a drunken festive wrestling match. Can't pinpoint exactly how it happened, but generally it's when you hyperextend your big toe upwards. Anyway I woke up in pretty bad pain and wasn't able to put weight on my big toe at all. I've gotten an X-Ray and there is no bone damage, but they said it might be a sprain of the ligaments or tendons.

So, stupidly I decided to go back to exercise in the hope that it would re-build the damaged ligaments/tendons. For 2 weeks I was doing things like calf raises, step ups and very light jogging, ignoring the pain/swelling. Now, after googling the injury and its treatment methods, it seems this was a terrible idea. Yesterday I rang every Physio around the D6 area and none of them are available til Monday. It's been 3 weeks I want to get this injury sorted ASAP because I'm leaving the country shortly.

Apparently this injury is quite common in sports played on astroturf, so, just wondering if anyone else has had it and how did you go about treating it?

    Rest and anti-inflammatories for now.

I was given anti-inflammatories (Difene) after my x-ray. Took them for three days as told and they helped with the pain and swelling. But the injury occured 3 weeks ago now. Is there any point in taking them still? I fear I'v done irreparable damage by training on it before it was recovered. I'm looking around other forums now and it seems like one of those injuries that continues to bother you on and off for years aferwards, unless properly treated.

Apply voodoo floss technique 3 times a day. 20 minutes on & off, so once you get pins & needles, stop, let the blood flow come back, rewrap & go again (if you have time). It did wonders both times I've busted my toe in the past 18 months! :/

It's simple enough, just modify what Jeff Alexander is doing here for your toe!
Then rest & if you need it pain killers and or ice...inflammation isn't the problem though!
