So Christmas is over and people are back to work so if your decorations are still up when will you take them down? Mine are still up but I'm thinking of taking them down tomorrow. Kinda getting sick of looking at them at this stage.

Have a small sitting room myself so once our tree is up it really makes it look tiny. Can't wait to have the tree up in the attic now.

By rights it should be 6th, but I'm a lazy bastard so will leave another week of so.

With a tear in my eye I'll take down the 2' foot tree tomorrow. Pack it back into the Argos Value box from where it came, and stuff it in under the sofa bed. Back to the harsh realities of life.

New years day. Anything after that is dragging it out and looking at decorations when you come home from work after christmas is depressing.

I take the tree down on the 6th, partially because it is tradition & partially because my mammy used to take them down, far, far to early when I was a kid. I used to hate how gloomy the living room looked when they were gone. I love the freedom I have now, of being able to leave them up as long as I want. But mainly because I am a lazy cow and, I just couldn't be arsed taking them down, until it is downright embarrassing to still have them up. I leave the holly, the white fairy lights and silver candle holders up on the mantle piece until the holly dies, which can last until mid February. It makes the room seem less gloomy when the tree comes down, but doesn't look too stupidly Christmassy.

I know people who are too lazy to remove the outside lights, theyve been up for about 12 years now I think. And I know someone who says "Happy Christmas" past the 2nd of January..

Traditionally in Ireland people put up their decorations on the 8th of December and took them down on the 6th/7th of January. The most important thing tough was to have them up for the 12 days of Christmas.
Now people are more influenced by television/tv/media and I find people have a tendency to copy this.

You could always pretend you're stocking up for Easter presents and secretly gorge on them at home :D

Have them up for a another week or so. Girlfriend's brother's fiancee is Russian Orthodox and they're coming for Orthodox Christmas on seventh. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to another Christmas day, we've kept back a few presents etc. just so we can do it right.

Avoided the issue by not putting any decorations up in the first place. Only about 350 shopping days till Xmas!!

A friend living by herself didn't bother either with putting them up. I have kids so it can't be avoided though.

yep, home alone this Christmas, didn't bother putting them up. Though haven't put them up for years, so it's not really an excuse....

Plenty of places have made up for you not putting them up I'm sure. No point in doing the whole decorations thing if you don't want too.

The last of the 12 days is the 5th. The 6th is the Feast of Epiphany of which Twelfth Night (the 5th) is the eve. From next year I've decided to celebrate Twelfth Night as a Feast of Misrule for my son and the kids of my family and friends. We'll revive lots of the old traditions and have various king cakes, traditional types from different regions, figgy pudding and wassail punch. We'll blend the games together by having whoever finds the baby in the cinnamon (New Orleans style) king cake, lead the wassailing and whoever finds the king in the marzipan king cake (Spanish or French style) lead the demands for figgy pudding, etc.

I've also read that in some regions the party would start by lighting a bonfire using any natural Christmas decorations like the tree and the holly. I'm not sure if that's a goer but it would certainly make an annual household event which most children find very depressing a fun tradition.

When I came to view my current house the guys who were living here still had their tree up. It was March.

I've always heard that the Christmas decorations are supposed to come down on or just after the 6th January. I plan to take mine down on the 7th.
