    Hey,

Anyone have any suggestions on fitness monitors. Looking for something which I could wear and that will measure the distance I run/cycle/whatever and heartbeat. Nothing too fancy, and preferably cheap.

    Thanks.

    Have you a smart phone?

I do indeed. Not exactly newfandangled though. About as close to a dumb phone as a smart phone can be.

Well you can get apps for that. Mapmyrun etc

But for something to track distance etc you'll need a GPS watch (I think). The Garmin's are good but I don't think they are cheap.

Usually it's your phone that will track the time distance etc as it has the gps built in. You need a separate chest strap heart rate monitor to measure hear rates however most do not talk to phones but will talk to watches etc.
My husband got me a polar H7 bluetooth heart rate monitor for Christmas that will log the heart rate on the phone but it is only compatible with iPhones.
I've only used it indoors so far so can't comment on how well it works on outdoor runs and cycles etc but it works very well indoors.

I use a Garmin fore runner watch, I find smart phones to big and cumbersome to carry, (the arm pouches don't work when you got guns like me ;) )
The garmin is great as its on your wrist and its easy to glance. The battery life is pretty good and it'll log about 8 hours before the battery needs recharging. You can upload your runs via USB or the more expensive ones can do it over a dongle.
