    Well are ya?

I'm not. New years eve has just annoyed me in recent years. Its a build up to 12 then once that passes it turns into just another night except its a bitch to get to the bar and a bigger bitch to get home. So am gonna spend it at home with family tonight.

    You? ... yes you! :p

Are you heading out? 28 votes

Nope. Will spend the night mindlessly browsing the interweb while sipping on a few bottles of Bud. Tonight and Stephen's night are no goes for me. Way too crowded and messy. The local nightclub is charging €15 in tonight, it's €5 on a normal Sat/Fri night.

    No fooking thanks!

    Bloody rip off

I'm staying home with a bottle of Aldi's finest. Never liked NYE, think it's waaay over rated.

Not a fan of going out on new years eve....have champagne in the fridge for later, that'll do me.

Worst night of the year to go out right up there with Xmas Eve and Stephens night. Packed, overpriced, over hyped and expect to be walking home so don't go too far.

I like going out on the piss every so often but I'd consider going near town on NYE a kind of hell.

Probably a few cans at home.

Couldn't be bothered going out. Far too expensive. And like someone said, the buildup is just to 12. Then it dies off and it's just a more annoying night then normal

No. Nopey nope no. I've never had a good New Year's Eve if I headed out, had some lovely ones staying in. It's me, my parents, some family friends and a couple of my mates who don't drink for most of the night, bit of whiskey, few smokes, take a gander at the Hootenanny (I know, super cool :o) and chat and enjoy some nice food. Then my younger and less sensible/cynical brother will arrive back at around three with a load of his friends and I can get properly bladdered with them if the notion takes me, and it probably will. Best of both worlds this year!

No not going out, will have a couple of whiskeys at home by the fire to welcome 2014.

Woke up this morning smothering with a cold and had to cry off going to a house party.

So sitting in tonight alone with the TV remote and a load of comfort food.

To those staying in, will you open your front door at midnight to see if there's anything going on or could you be arsed?

I'm planning to go out tonight - I'm in Reykjavik for the first time and they have imported 400 tons of fireworks for the occasion. It already sounds like a warzone outside and I have seen kids throwing caution to the wind and firing them in all directions. Tonight should be fun!

Old pair have an old garage converted into a bar with god size dance floor and lounge. Nothing on tap as yet but have the bar, tables, seats, lighting ect.

Great for party's and the like yet still feels like a pub outing, only cheaper :)

I'm in London and heading to Slimelight. Catching up with loads of people and my first new years outside Ireland. So yeah, heading out!

Nah gonna spend it in with herself, we aint drinkers but since its new years a bag of drugs and weed and sure we will see what happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,782 ✭✭✭dmc17

Nope, heading out tomorrow night for a few. You won't have as many idiots wishing you a happy new year. Sure half of them couldn't give less of a fcuk anyway!

Nah I'm not, heading to a friend's for food, drink and cards against humanity :D

Stopped going out for the New Year when the publicans tried to rip us off for the Millenium. Some of them are still suffering from that back-fire thankfully.

Love going out NYE but this year the OH wants us to be together, snuggling, all the lads down the local and me snuggling.
FFS its all I do now a days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,782 ✭✭✭dmc17

I'd say the poll won't be very accurate as most people who are heading out won't be spending their evening hanging around AH :)

I've never done the pub/club thing on NYE. Only twice did I ever go to see a concert with family on the night and even that felt a little weird to me.

All the build up for what is essentially one minute. 11.59 is 2013 and 00.00 is 2014. at 00.01, nothing has changed, yet you have been fleeced blind in every pub and club and you probably end up all squashed in like sardines. Everyone is very drunk and either hyper or over-emotional.

If I had my way I'd be in bed asleep by 12. I get quite miserable around NY - always make me quite emotional. I don't know why.

So I'm going to sit at home with family watching telly or surfing the net, then go to bed as soon as the NY has been rung in.

Boring, I know, but that's the way I like it.

Nobody else curious about the distinction between "weed" and the otherwise unspecified "drugs"?

I mean depending on the particulars of the bag of general drugs the night could go a lot of ways.

I'm heading to a party in 10 mins, does that count as out or in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,981 ✭✭✭ElleEm

I hate New Years Eve. I just think it's a ridiculous concept, cheering at a clock cos we all get to open a new calender!

I try to avoid going out but usually get roped into something as my boyfriend loves it, but this year we are just having a chilled night watching films. I hope to be asleep by 12am!

Will be at Madness, just ironing my Y Cardigan and white grandfather shirt now. Was gonna go down early and fap in the crowd while the Sugababes where on, but just noticed Heidi is not with them any longer, so not gonna bother now.

****ing wish I wasn't going out. I've been hung over for the last week but the missus is keen so my fate is sealed. January detox will be essential.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,271 ✭✭✭TireeTerror

You aint experienced Hogmanay until you've been there in Edinburgh. The excitement goes on way past 12 and next day everyone is first footing getting more and more drunk, awesome!

Depressing night, just means back in work and the end of Xmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

Negative. The missus is working a night shift, most of the lads went back to Ireland for the holidays, I've spent £200 in the last 2 days on the car plus I'm flying back to Dublin on Friday for the weekend. I'm quite content to give it a miss this year.

Off to a friend's house party. Nearly fully baked, just need the alcohol glaze.

Well someone has to make some young wan's night/year at 12 by lobbing the gob

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,166 ✭✭✭Fr_Dougal

Nah, don't fancy waiting for hours in the freezing cold trying to get a taxi afterwards, plus have work on Thursday and these two day hangovers are no fun. Will head out at the weekend, less crowds.

    Not me.

I hate the night. Overpriced drinks, entry, people extremely drunk... No thanks.

I'm working until 12. Hopefully get in to the local and see whoever's there :)

Won't stay long though. There's no way I could hope to catch up!
