NUIG vs GMIT

    I am looking at a course in both of these colleges. (I should get the points for both courses) An undenominated science course in NUIG and a biology and pharmacutical course in GMIT. The GMIT course has work placement. I would probably end up doing biochemistry in NUIG. What qualification would be better NUIG or GMIT?

    Only a science graduate could tell you. I went to NUIG so would be biased. NUIG is a university so larger and more research grants. Probably more on campus to do and more students.
    Gmit is more practical and the work placement is a big draw. If you are more interested in research and academia I would go NUIG. If want to fly through and get working Gmit. Nuig is also centrally located whereas Gmit is out a good bit. Visit both campuses, should help.

    This may be controversial but I went to NUIG and as an employer, I would regard a GMIT degree as better than a NUIG one (e.g. BComm v Business Studies). It's simple really - GMIT students do more lectures and more practicals than in NUIG. NUIG is more 'fun' and maybe more 'recognised' (even though that is rapidly changing). NUIG is a better location and campus but the bottom line is you will be more 'educated' at GMIT.

    If I remember correctly, in NUIG a couple of 3rd year biochemistry students have the opportunity to study in the highly ranked Hong Kong University of Science & Technology with some funding by the programs sponsors. That is an excellent opportunity that really should be considered.

    NUIG is way better college but if only GMIT offers the placement, go with that.

    Agree with this big time. Graduating this year myself from NUIG. If I could turn back the clock, I would of went to GMIT. The high turnover of students in NUIG simply means that you would not be getting as much attention/general interest about your academic well-being from lecturers/ head of faculties than you would if you were at GMIT. Class size seems to be a lot smaller there. A couple of my friends went to both Universities and I.T's, its just the ones from the I.T's getting employed and seem to be happy about skills they learned in the 3 or 4 years they spent in college.
