Saorview RTE 1 Not Working

    Hi Guys,

We just moved house to an apartment in dublin city centre. The old house could pick up RTE 1,2 tv3 tg4 and the other ones like rte +1 etc on the internal tv ariel/rabbits ears with no hassle. We had no external tv aerial.

Since we have moved rte 1 and plus 1 either wont pick up or move in slow motion. tv3 and rte 2 seem to work fine most of the time.

Management wont let us up up a dish/aerial outside- can i get a booster for inside or is there something else that may help? I have done an automatic retune which did not help.

We have a digihome saorview box.

I have searched the site but dont have a clue about this technology so dont even know what im looking for. its been like this for the past 4 weeks.

Any help would be great! Thanks

Indoor aerials are never recommended for Saorview as they can be too erratic. Try moving it as near to a, preferably south facing, window as possible. Don't waste your money on amplified indoor aerials as they seldom improve matters and may even make it worse.

Did you carry out a re-scan on the box. Whenever I get dodgy reception it seems to help. I'm using an amplified indoor aerial.

Might be worth changing direction/location where the aerial is placed too. I'm guessing apartments are going to have more high buildings surrounding them which is affecting the reception.

Are they not then required to provide a connection from a communal aerial?

Sadly and stupidly there is no such obligation. There should be and for Dish too.

The RTÉ1 on channel 11 is only a temporary duplicate which will be switching off soonish. The "new" HD version of RTÉ 1 moved to a new frequency (mux) back in Oct. If you're not seeing this on channel 1 you'll have to get someone to look at your aerial.

This is the current channel line up on Saorview

A properly installed aerial will get you the missing frequency/mux.

    Where is your aerial located?

On the roof I think. I live in a rented house. Might ask my landlord to have a look. Its mad that every other channel is perfect but I have no No1.

How are RTÉ Junior and RTÉ1+1 on channels 7 and 8, they are also on the new frequency with their temporary duplicates on channels 17 and 18?

The aerial requires an adjustment to pickup the new frequency that carries the other channels. A local installer will be able to sort it.

Thank you. Think its the same problem I've come across today. No RTE1 for my neighbour.

    Hey,
Having the same problem as SarahBM. i.e. very poor quality or no RTE1, +1 or RTE jr. The thing is they're working fine on one telly (after re-tuning) but not on another telly even after re-tuning. Both digital TVs. Any ideas would be much appreciated?

    Signal strength issue I'd assume.

What type of aerial is feeding the 2 TVs, indoor/outdoor/attic?
How is the signal split to the 2 TVs, splitter/amplifier?

The aerial is in the attic. Think they're separated by a splitter.

The aerial is in the attic. Think they're separated by a splitter.

Replacing the splitter with a distribution amplifier could resolve the problem, place the amplifier close to the aerial.
