    http://www.pixmania.ie/usb-key/sandisk-cruzer-blade-usb-key-32-gb/11850697-a.html

the same one would cost 18.61 on amazon with supersaver and parcel motel address but thats not includng the 3.50 charge for using parcel motel.

Here's another 32GB at around the same price for when this offer ends. Got one at home and it works fine.

    There's a Cruzer Slice that's 32GB reduced from 34 to 17 in Harvey Norman.

It's 3 quid dearer but it means you don't have to wait around for delivery.

I bought one of these for my freesat box and it's causing me all sorts of problems maybe it's not suited to a freesat box maybe someone would let me know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

The listed speeds of these seem slow. Some people aren't bothered about speed of these but just to be aware of it.

    Compare to this one

how does the password protection work when plugged into a blu ray player for instance? Will the player be able to access movies on the USB or do you have you enter the password or what's the craic - anybody know?

Someone in the Sat forum may be able to assist - be sure to post your boxes brand / model.

I'm not surprised, especially if you were recording in HD. I recorded BBC HD onto a stick and I think it worked out at around 5GB of data for just 1 hour. That's a pretty high bitrate and I don't expect these sticks are fast enough for that. Ask at the Sat forum as advised but you should be better off with something like this plus a USB adapter:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057112609

I bought the one in the OP as part of a bundle of 3 again posted by Allyall a while back. They worked out at exactly 12.66 Euro each delivered (paying in GBP). But you have to be aware that they are slow (around 5.5MB/s write), so it depends what you intend to use them for:

I think most people will recommend you just format the device and get rid of all that password protection stuff.

Most of that protection stuff only works on computers

I bought this morning this stick but reading above probably will cause problems recording from tv. Checked how to cancel from pixmania but there is no option for that. On the website they say you can cancel under the tracking of the order but none of that. Anyone know how to cancel an order on pixmania? Thanks!

edit: I paid with credit card; maybe that is the reason the option to cancel does not show up. Strange though!!!

If you can find other uses for it, it's still a handy little thing to have lying around the house and it's an 'ok' price. Also it might just about work for you depending on what sat box you have, I just found it a little flaky recording HD. But I'm mainly using them to play content from on a TV box, might take ages to fill them up but the read speed from them is fine.

Cheers for that, what's the speeds on it after using it?

How long does delivery take from pixmania? it certainly has come down in price as i came across this earlier thread on the same item, afaik you can get 3 for €39, but can't remember where now!

Write & Read speeds from someone who has tried it out, if possible thanks ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭peckerhead

I used to have the 8GB model and while the read speeds were fairly OK the write speeds were the slowest of any USB stick I have ever owned. I'm talking about maybe 8-10 mins to copy a 700Mb movie file to it...

For the sake of a few euro I'd recommend this instead. Fits on a keyring and is tough enough to last there, unlike the plastic yokes. I also had one of those HP ones (got it in Tesco on a misprice :D) and while it was lovely and small, and fairly fast, the tiny plastic ring that attaches to your keyring snapped off within about a week.

Can't find specs for the speed of the metal one. Maybe a lot of people aren't bothered. There was this comment though...
Looks good and is robust, but transfer speeds are appalling. Like watching paint dry. I cant think of a use for it other than as a key ring.

These usb stick are shíte .. write rate is 4mb/sec read rate 15.5mb.

Something like this is twice as fast for write speeds.

Hmm it seems to have gone up by 60 cents, anyways to answer your questions, im in the north west it took them 4 days to deliver, they deliver with UPS, i find em fairly alright. As for the speeds ya everyone is right, the write speeds are about 4mb and the read speed is ok at around 16-17mb. Overall for me i dont really care about speed because i can just do other things on my computer while waiting for it to do its thing. i put mp4s on the stick so i can play them on my tv. didnt realize speed and writing was important. but for a reasonably well known brand name and at the orginal price of 14.14 delivered i thought it was a pretty good deal for a 32gb flash drive.

What is the minimum spend on Amazon.de to avail of SuperSaverShipping is it the same as UK as i had added an extra item about €10 (clothing) but it brought it upto to €35 instead, as i'm using google translate, but cant find one that says fulfilled by amazon.

AFAIK there is no free super saver delivery to Ireland from amazon.de

I'd spend an extra €5 and go for a USB 3.0 version (assuming you have the hardware), Irish supplier too:

    http://www.memoryc.ie/products/description/32GB_Transcend_JetFlash_760_Super_Speed_USB3_0_Flash_Drive-Black_Purple_/index.html

At these capacities, I think write speeds become more important.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DIRSZKE/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1

About a fiver more expensive than the OP, half the size and USB3. I've just ordered two.

I ordered a SanDisk 32GB Cruzer Switch off MyMemory for around €14 (paid in sterling) and used the BT11AA trick to get free postage

    http://www.mymemory.co.uk/USB-Flash-Drives/SanDisk/SanDisk-32GB-Cruzer-Switch-USB-Flash-Drive--Includes-SecureAccess-Software

Judging by the reviews on Amazon it's faster than the Blade, but I haven't tested the difference myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

you wouldnt believe how slow these are so avoid if using regularly
worth waiting for a better option or paying a few
    quid extra for something faster

mine cracked also just having it in my pocket with spare change

    UnwantedStickBought comes to mind :D

That was my second choice as it was sold out in a few other places as well, but when i was using google translate on the site, i did come across a lot of good reviews especially on speed, kinda made up my mind.

    Read:30MB/s
    Write: 20MB/s

Yeah i've used them before, I saw that one a while back & was told by the online chat that unless you have the system it wont get any quicker, even though i use a USB3.0 ext hard disk, so was undecided after that?

That was until i learned that they dont have free delivery over a certain amount, as you still pay P+P. Cheers, as i got the first one anyway.

Integral 32Gb USB 3.0 Works out around €17.50. I got one of these on the cheap last year, really decent read and write speeds (Read speed up to 80MB/s*, and a Write speed up to 10MB/s)

I'm not sure if it is available for super saver but well worth the extra 3 euro if you can get the free delivery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,086 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I'd just use BT11AA for anything small like this that doesn't qualify for Super Saver... I've ordered over 100 items using this, and have never had problems

Ordered maybe 5 things using this method - never anything more than 20 pounds as its kinda unreliable - takes a few days longer and usually arrives with handwritten corrections in biro made by various postmen on the label.

one parcel I ordered last year never arrived - so 80% success rate for me.

Yeah I only use it for relatively small items (i.e. smaller than an A4 book)... also nothing more than €20 so if it does get lost you won't be too badly off.

€20 is fairly close to the £25 that qualifies you for free delivery so if I go above €20 I usually throw in a few other items to qualify for free delivery.
