I tried to get into this a few times in the past... I was young and stupid I guess, it's definitely on the "experimental" side of rock music and the themes are dark, but it's not impenetrable at all.

I'm glad I got a copy recently... been playing it obsessively this week.

I can't remember when I last bought music,
the first single i bought was George Benson 'give me the night'. from the bargain bin in Savins Music Store in Limerick,
    around 1980/81
I didn't particularly like it at the time but I couldn't go wrong at 10p.
I remember my brother snapped it in half during a fight, I was really pissed off...

    Tower Record’s have a copy of this boxset… think it’s €100ish.

Very tempted. Has anyone here splashed out such a large figure on a single purchase?

Yea the first album of CROSBY STILLS AND NASH is on heavy matarial also! (200 Gram) and it sounds excellent!!!

The newly 2001 remastered version of the first album is on the same 200 Gram stuff also.. BUT I DONT THINK IT SOUNDS AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!! (I would imagine its not straight analogue as the original IS)

    220px-SongsOfLeonardCohen.jpeg

    Bob_Dylan_-_Blood_on_the_Tracks.jpg

....both 4.99 in Hidden Book & Music Shop (second hand...)

Only the second Dylan album I’ve bought and my first Leonard Cohen listen. Strange admission from a 28 year old, but I think I’d a tendency in my teens/20s to “dig” for great music, ignoring oft-cited classics like these (and Neil Young – man I was stupid)

I’ve been playing them both a lot the last few days, really connecting with certain songs. Amazing albums that deserve their rep..

    Also…
    Fugazi_-_Repeater_cover.jpg

    14.99... new, same place.

I've played End Hits, In on the Kill Taker and Red Medicine a lot. First time hearing their debut. I think this might top those albums, I dig 'Kill Takers immediacy, End Hits experimental moments, but this sounds more cohesive.

Blueprint is a hell of a song.

Love Repeater. Check out The Argument if you haven't heard it yet, it balances experimentation and catchy songwriting so well. :)

will do. thanks for the tip.

I found it hard to get into their discography because so much of it is well regarded.

Same with their label mates Lungfish. When I asked for recommendations on forums the responses were "it's all great..."

    It's fabulous.

I became hooked on Don't You Want Me as soon as I heard it on the radio sometime during early December 1981. Unfortunately the local shop was out of stock so I recklessly made a 99p bargain bin purchase - the League's previous hit The Sound of The Crowd on 12".

Check out the remix album Love and Dancing if you get a chance - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_and_Dancing

Tip: If ordering a few from them, add all to basket and do one checkout rather than separate orders. That means one Visa Debit transaction charge as it's considered one transaction.

Have just bought Padraig Rynne's album "Notify" having caught a few mins of him at the Templebar Tradfest last week, can't wait to hear it in full.

I treated myself to The Gloaming's album this day last week, and literally, can not get it out of my head. It's just beautiful, sometimes breathtakingly so. And yet, despite the fact the songs are all new (to me), they strangely feel like they've been in my life forever, there's something so evocative, so moving, so beautiful about them. If you have any bit of grá for quiet/classical/trad kinda music, do yourself a favour and buy it, you won't regret it.

alanis morrisette - jagged little pill
