in the panthen of legends from laurel and hardy to bob hope, to george burns, to walter matthau and jack lemmon, dave allen to harold lloyd to richard pryor, bill hicks , andy kaufman and beyond

so to those funny people alive

Of those you've listed, yes, I would say Larry David is the best.

    Totally agree!

Maybe not the No.1 funniest on stage but Artie Lange is hilarious in his overall character ....tragic, wild and intriguing.

Loveable train wreck whos been up and down like a yoyo.
The real life Krusty, stopping off to do a kids gig before being police escorted to rehab kind of deal.

More vices than the population of N.Y, takes swings at cops in LA while coked up after losing tens of thousands in Vegas and spending more on hookers. Still winning, if slightly obese. Sheen doesn't have an inch on him.

my fave living comic, ever who knows, ever is a long time
watched laurel and hardy recently pissed myself laughing all over again

I think Chris Morris on his day was the funniest bloke alive. Would be great if he did some more t.v. work, not as an actor in someone else's program.

Throw Armando Ianucci and Steve Coogan into the mix.

The guilt of laughing at his incredibly dark humor VS the promise of incredible lulz.

The guilt has yet to win.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is absolute sh*te...

For me regardless of the fact he hasn't been active in a while, it has to be Dave Chappelle. Complete genius and such an appealing presence.

Hasn't exactly been confirmed yet, but there's a suggestion it'll be back, so ran as in past tense may not be appropriate.

Larry David is right up there with Richard Pryor, Woody Allen, Eddie Murphy and the legendary George Carlin.

A toss up between him and dave chappelle.

Chappelle is regularly called "the best living comic" by other comedians, and there is a reason for that.
    He's bloody hilarious.

No. He's on a par with Des Bishop for being annoying.

For anyone who thinks Larry David isn't on top level, just watch season after season of curb....
Rather than deteriorate, it's just excelled more..

Arrival of Leon and the blacks...
    Do you respect wood?
    Wheelchair Wendy
    Palestinian chicken
MJ Fox apparently abusing his illness

    Comic genius

(Meanwhile the in laws have mrs brown on the box...if inventor of Tv knew it would be used for that ****e, he'd maybe have canned the project)

I accept that he's really good but I just can't abide cringing on the scale experienced from watching shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm or The Office.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Funniest person alive? No idea. The comedy writing of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams & Jerry Zucker on Police Squad, Airplane and later the Naked Gun series was close to perfection, however. Not a single word wasted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭miralize

Conan O'Brien & Louis CK are probably the best comedic thinkers at the moment.

The episode where Coogan plays Larry's shrink is pretty much a masterpiece of television comedy.

    You're just wrong.

Wrong in saying I'm in the minority or wrong in saying it's sh*te...if the latter it's all opinion but I've never made it through more than a handful of episodes without switching because it was too boring, repetitive or unoriginal or all of the above...if I'm clearly missing out on his comic genius then fair enough but I know I'm not missing out on a whole lot...dead honest here, I didn't laugh once properly at this and I'm not trying to be biased towards my opinion:

I thought parts of Seinfeld were incredibly boring and unfunny while other parts were hilarious. It was worth sitting through the tedium to get to the hilarious parts though.

Curb Your Enthusiasm didn't really appeal to me. I think there were maybe two occasions where I really laughed at it.

Seinfeld ran for a lot less than two decades by the way.

Billy Connolly for me. Don't think anyone else has made me laugh as much as he has. Just watched this gig he preformed in New York around ten years ago and nearly choked on a turkey sambo at the story he told about the old woman on the bus. Sad to see he is battling cancer and early stages of possibly Parkinsons. Man is, and always will be, a comedy legend.
