Something, I've found with these TV's is that it can see DNLA devices on a network and thats fine but what it can't do is stream from a Playon HD box because the LG TV can't see it on the network to access it.

They appear to be able to see a Windows 8 computer without any effort also but not not 7 or Vista without installing the smartshare app on the computer.
I don't know about the box..but regarding the other devices ie windows 7 and vista I'm nearly sure there's a setting on your PC which allows your tv to access it. Actually on vista I don't think you'd be able to it but on windows 7 there should be a problem

Did you check if the files are at the correct sharing folder and on the same network, i seemed to recall (Open to correction) that they need to be in a certain allowed folder?

They (the LG smart TV) see anything DLNA certified....PC/Laptops will need s/w, up to Win 7....there is a built-in client on Win 8.

All I was bringing to your attention was that if you have network attached storage, the LG tv's cannot see it on your network unless it is DNLA certified. This is a huge omission, I think. Now a WD tv or similar will do this but it's another box.

    Ouch.

You can attach a drive to a PC and share it using DNLA.

There is still LG Smart Share on the TV, and it can access Plex or TVersity, or whatever DLNA server you have running on your PC/Laptop or NAS.

It works OK for your locally stored media, music, video, etc.

People should also know that Windows Media Player has DLNA server built-in, which works on Win 7, Vista, I don't know about XP.

    See this....

I got this tv a couple of weeks ago and I was initially disappointed with the Smart apps.
After spending a little time googling I have now got the BBC iPlayer/5 On Demand and NowTV working through it after changing the region to the UK. All work (virtually)flawlessly.
If I could find a way to sideload Hulu+ onto it I would be the very happiest of bunnies but it does mean that the NowTV box that I ordered last week can go into a different room now.

How did you load those apps any lnks?

I didn't load them, when I changed region on the TV (and Unblock-US.com) they appeared. I used a guide from Unotelly.com combined with Unblock-us' tutorial.
Took about 10 minutes altogether. On some TVs you're able to change the location to US but most European TVs can't change country to America anymore.

If you need them I can find the links this evening, I don't have them here in work.

In response to the couple of requests please note I'm not giving links to add an iPlayer app, merely showing you how I did it.
I already use Unblock-us.com for Netflix and Hulu+, but their tutorial http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/291584
stopped short of working for me as it didn't mention going back to the main settings whereas the UnoDNs one http://help.unotelly.com/support/articles/43552-setting-up-unodns-on-your-lg-smarttv walked me straight through and as soon as I was done the iPlayer/NowTv/5OnDemand were there. (No 4OD, Samsung appear to have them locked up)

Bought this TV and am really impressed with it, thanks OP.
Just wondering if anyone has got RTE Player working on it?
Is there a RTE Player app available from LG?
    Searched but couldn't find it.

I got this TV for 500 late november 2013

Its a class piece of kit, It also has the ARC supporting HDMI and Simplink for home cinema systems so I got me a Panasonic Sound bad subwoofer, that along with WIFI on both Tv and Xbox One makes for a very tidy setup (looks and wire wise)

Miracast from your smartphone, if it is available there, but it ties up your phone.

On the browser go here and save as a favourite:

    www.rte.ie/playerxl/

There may be another way with XBMC, I am not familiar, but here is a link if it helps...

    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=152897

And there is always aertv.....see announcement:

I'm confused about TV's greater than 50Hz, why do people what this smeary soap opera effect of 100, 300 or 600Hz TVs, I detest it when I see it in stores. Surly its better to view content in its original frame rate, 25fps = 50Hz?

You should be able to adjust or turn off the motion control. Perhaps someone with the TV can confirm?

A friend has an LG smart tv and I watched the goonies recently. It was like a soap opera.

I also got this for €510 from HN....free delivery, take away clapped out, massive Phillips and the smart remote.....

I am very happy, but I need to change region to UK.....

silly me set up Ireland as my region, so no iPlayer or Now TV apps....

I already use Unlocator Beta (free) to get US Netflix....just set their DNS on the TV, or your router if you prefer.

    https://unlocator.com/

To get Netflix working, I had to set up a static IP in Network settings on the TV.

Will I need to rescan satellites after doing this?? [ Region Change]

Also, the lack of a proper EPG for Freesat is a drag, any suggestions for a cheap freesat HD STB welcome.

Yep your better off setting region to UK on it or you basically have nothing with the smart function.

Yep if you change the DNS settings you are able to avail of us netflix, if you have a bluray player/xbox/playstation you will be able to avail of both irish and us

As far as I know you will have to rescan for satellites after a region change as it will nearly reset all back to original

All I have freesat wise is a technomatic (i think its called) which I have never got the hang of so I cant help you there, I actually would love to know how to use the free sat and pull in loads of different channels

Newbie here, reserved a 42ln575v at Argos for e449. Hope it has a dvb-s2 as well as saorview. Magic remotes out of stock in all Argos stores - even in UK! So must be huge demand for lg tvs.

Yes, it has a Sat tuner, but not a Freesat EPG.

Set UK as your Region, and a post code for whatever region you wish.

Download the lg remote app, either andoid or iphone, and work it from your phone. Full mouse like features and touch pad. Class app. Way better than remote supplied, when browsing internet.

The bbc iplayer app would not work for me, when I set the region, maybe it picks up your ip address as your region, and blocks it. Open to correction, or some help as to how you can get the iplayer app working.

The rte player site def will not work, as it uses flash, but all the free movies , sports sites etc. are working fine, and is the main reason I bought a smart tv. :)

I changed the DNS settings on the TV, to this one,
    50.112.186.233

from Unlocator, they are in free beta presently....

    sign-up here

This is their instructions for manual setting up the Unlocator DNS...perhaps not totally correct steps, but you will get it OK.
How to Setup LG TV and Players

    [Last Updated: Jan 08, 2014 11:17PM CET]
    • Press Settings
    • Go to Network
    • Select Network Connection
    • Select Start Connection
    • Select Other Network List
    • Choose Set Expert
    • Choose Wired or Wireless depending on how you connect
    • Under DNS Mode select Manual Input
    • Set DNS to 50.112.186.233
    • Press OK
    • Wait for the Check to complete and press Complete
    • Restart

You might also set up a Static IP address here, as I found Netflix did not work for me until I did that, getting IP from DHCP pool did not work out too well, but the Netflix App is fantastic, and my BB is under 2MB, ADSL, [down in the Sticks]...it runs without any buffering, no sync problems, like HD, marvelous!!!

depending on your Router, you should remove a number of IP's from the DHCP pool available, to use for devices which may need one.

As for the RTE Player, it will definitely run on the TV Browser, [no Player App], there is Flash support, for sure, I have it running!!!

Use this URL, for the XL Player, it is better....

    http://www.rte.ie/playerxl

Also, you should try out the TV Miracast option, for any player on your Miracast supporting Android phone, it also works fine....

and of course, you should install Plex or TVMOBiLi or some other DNLA media server on your PC or Laptop, to play all your Music and Video on the TV, using the DNLA option.....even your Windows Media Player can be a DNLA Media Server....

Also, Skifta on your DLNA enabled Android allows you to control where you straem from and where you stream to, using DNLA.....

This is a fantastic and versatile piece of kit, no doubt.

Bought this and very happy so far. It was 489 not 499 in my Harvey Norman which is another tenner saved. Girl there said it was going up to 549 again soon although that could be crap talk. It has gone back up on Argos. Thanks op and the above post. RTE Player works fine through the browser. Didn't get the magic remote but have the app on my Android Nexus 5 phone. The app is crashing a bit but in general if fine. TV is great though.

Is that a subscription service for that DNS or does it just work for free?
