I remember their ads for stephens day sales in newspapers around 1993/1994. They have literally grabbed that newspaper ad from way back when and plonked it onto a webpage.

Screw the web design.......where are the bargains?

    I'm not seeing any.

I was looking at smart TVs over last few weeks and their sale prices are same as they were last weekend so no bargains there.

Power City sale is by far the biggest joke in the electrical world. They mislead customers by posting stickers "was €€€, now €€€" The price was never that in the first place. Why of Why do people queue up at mad hours to rush to there sale? Fair enough, the first 10 in the queue might get a bargain but that's it.

Most items are the same price as before Xmas yet they hang big banners saying "Biggest Ever Sale" , should say biggest ever scam.

At least DID, Harvey Norman and Arnotts reduce there prices

Power City is a no go for bargains

Does anyone have a 3D tv? Just wondering what regular tv is like on them? Will they be displayed like they would on a normal tv? The samsung 43 inch smart one on power city sale caught my eye since its a smart tv too.

I am in the market for a soundbar with super woofer - one particular model,Samsung HW-F350.
Powercity have it for 150 which is the cheapest I can find. So I will be knocking on their door tomorrow. Indeed the "previous" price is cheaper than the sale price of some other retailers.

Argos are 170 sale price for the same item.

    Did are 175.

    Currys are 170, no ljnk.

Yes, I tried them earlier. With postage it works out at 162.50 (according to exchg rates at checkout) and delivery time of 3-5 days.
I can collect tomorrow at power city for 149.95.

I actually like the website, it's a throwback to their original full page black and white ads put together on the cheap, it's the Powercity 'look'

How did you get caught for carriage to Ireland? All orders over £25 are delivered free to Ireland. And this item is despatched by Amazon so it should be free delivery.

Standard delivery is 10stg. They have a free delivery which takes longer. I don't really want to wait around until the new year so will buy the 149 euro one in the shop tomorrow as we will watch a lot of tv between now and the new year!

I have that TV. When I bought it a few months ago, the cheapest I could get it online was between 700 and 750 + delivery, so 699 would be the going rate for that TV. Doubt you'll find it much cheaper elsewhere. In fact, its a good deal, and the TV is class!

    The web design process...
Designer: And finally, monsieur, a wafer-thin screen.
    Customer: No.
Designer: Oh sir! It's only a tiny little thin one.
Customer: No. **** off - The site is full...
Designer: Oh sir... it's only wafer thin.
Customer: Look - It couldn't fit another thing. It's absolutely stuffed. Bugger off.
Designer: Oh sir, just... just one...
Customer: Oh all right. Just one.
Designer: Just the one, sir... voila... bon appetit...

Is that the 3D tv? If so what is the picture quality like on the regular tv (non 3D)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

Ye its the 3D model, but I rarely use 3D, even though I have Sky 3D.

99.9% of my time is spent watching normal TV, or playing games. The picture quality is flawless.

Out of the box it looked great, but then I went online and got some apparently optimised settings, but I didnt notice an improvement, which wasnt surprising since it was so good to begin with.

The only good thing I can say about their website is that they show stock levels in stores, eg 20 here, 40 there, which seems genuine unlike argos, which always seems to say, only 3 or 4 left.

Me too. However I'm looking for one that's wireless (neater) and offers bluetooth (so family can seamlessly play music).

Which beings me to this one - LG NB3530A 300W which is about €209 plus Parcel Motel delivery. Okay so it's not €150 but for the additional bluetooth, wireless and an additional 180W of volume, for me that's a better buy.

If you have sky or UPC a smart tv doesn't offer any benefit. Likewise if you can get a tv with the same spec less the smart part for 100 then your better off getting an Apple TV aswell as the regular TV

I disagree with that they will always negotiate recently bought a fridge, freezer, hob, hood and Hoover from them. They matched and bettered everyone else like for like. For repeat buisness there even better, punch your number I to the PC and come back with best price.

All I have is the freesat, because the TV is going to be wall mounted I was just thinking of clean lines with what I need built into one appliance. I have a now TV box so might just try to stick it behind TV if I get a cheaper price for ordinary led. Thanks

If its close or at the normal price most the year its not a sale.

Normal price isn't some fantasy retail price that its hardly ever at.

A soundbar needs to work your tv/sky remote for volume control IMHO, if using with a tv of course!

Iv ordered the 40" f6400 off powercity. But im alittle worried about the 40ms input lag when gaming. Do you use "game mode" or have you relabeled the hdmi input to "PC" in tv options ?,(game mode gives 43ms delay, PC mode gives 40ms delay)

Have you noticed any delay when playing games ?

Do power city offer finance on their products?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Donalh

My PowerCity microwave went on fire! Granted it was out of warranty but I still dont think it is acceptable for any product to go on fire. I brought it back to the store a couple months ago, explained what happened... surprise surprise, never heard from them again. Sale or no sale, ill be giving PowerCity a wide berth

Hardly powercitys fault, could happen with an appliance bought anywhere. Surely you'd just steer clear of the particular brand of microwave and not all powercitys.
