I was thinking of getting a SAD lamp for my significant other, when I noticed quite a few of you said on the Xmas wishlist thread that you already have them and love them.

I had no idea they were so popular, I dont know why but for some reason I thought it was something the average person would never have heard of it.

So I thought maybe start a thread on it maybe get some ideas going back and forward, maybe see what lamps other people are using etc..

(FWIW- Ive just ordered this http://www.boots.ie/en/Lumie-Bodyclock-Starter-30_983843/ I'll let you all know in a few weeks if its any good)

    This is a great idea!
I've been stuck for a gift idea for my mum
And this would be perfect for her.

    They are not SAD lamps?

I really recommend light alarms for winter use, but a SAD light is a different thing altogether. I think light alarms help with sad, but not to the extent of the specific light units designed for treating it.

The wake up light alarm is a fantastic invention though, love mine.

I got two SAD lamps a few years ago, think they were 80 quid each or so. They looked exactly like this:

Initially i felt the light was so strong it was hurting my eyes a bit, but I built up slowly and got used to it. I must admit, I didn't feel any real difference. After 2 or 3 years the light was noticeably dimmer. I still have them but they're packed away now.

Just stumbled across this in search.
Think the Boots lights are wake up lights not sad lights.
username123, where did you get your lights?Have been looking online now autumn is here and yours look similar to these sadtherapyireland.com/prestashop/index.php?id_product=8&controller=product. and how did you get on with them?

I have a lamp and I swear by it. Best thing I bought in a while. The brand is Lumie and the only place I could find them is Murray's Medical Supplies in Dublin. It was about 70 I think. I have them Arabica model and use it all through the winter.

We have a Lumie too, got it cheaply in a Boots pricing error! My husband notices a change in his mood this time every year and the lamp for 15 minutes every morning really seems to help. He does a few other things too like increase vitamin D dosage and give up alcohol for a few months. We're trying to be as proactive as possible this year as we're due a baby in deepest darkest December!

If you're looking for a cheap option, Aldi did a wake-up alarm and light combo. It's not a SAD lamp, but for 30 quid or so it's not bad. They'll probably be back in Aldi at some point.

Maplin is where I got mine.

Great, will check out Maplin and Boots.
I have found a few Irish sites such as brighterday or sadtherapyireland.
There is a big variation in price, so will do some more research.
Not looking forward to those darker evenings

The less expensive ones usually have less light intensity, they need to have a certain amount to be effective

Just coming back to this as I bought an Aurora from sadtherapyireland, was a tad pricey but can also be used as a normal lamp, so I have it in the lounge. Finding it very good. Wondering has anyone else any experiences with sad lamps ~?..

Darn, I meant to buy one of the aldi ones, completely forgot. Probably not great anyway if they were only E30...
