One wrong. Better than 93% of the population apparently.
The one about the bible being read in American Schools as an example of literature. I didn't know that.

    11 out of 15.

Not bad for someone with little knowledge of religions.

    14/15

Cant say Im surprised to see Jewish and atheists/agnostics at the top. Funny how the higher level the education the more a person understands religion. Would be interested in seeing a study comparing someones level of education and their beliefs.

14/15. I hadn't a clue about the last question, but - in my defence - only 11% of respondents got that one right.

12/15, Better than 87% of the population. - its very yank orientated.

I got 12. Should have been 13 but I didn't pay proper attention and messed up the Pakistan question. Still got nearly all the Christian stuff. Thanks ridiculously backwards education system.

    15. :pac:

The final one was a complete guess, though. I've no idea what it even means.

8 out of 15, mostly guess work. Alot of the questions were about Judaism which I don't have a clue about really.

    14.

11, including a couple of lucky guesses.

Fifteen questions in a poll entitled 'What do you know about religion', ten relate to Christianity, two to Islam, one each to Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism with Taoism getting a mention as a wrong answer. Hmmm.......

It's america, if it's not christian it's trying to destroy Christianity.

The questions regarding the Old Testament would be equally relevant to Christianity and Judaism (and Islam, to an extent). Overall, the questions probably reflect the breakdown of religious groups in the US.

    I was thinking that, and a quick glance at wikipedia shows the following;
The majority of Americans (73–80%) identify themselves as Christians and about 15–20% have no religious affiliation.[2][3] According to the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) (2008) 76% of the American adult population identified themselves as Christians, with 25% identifying themselves as Catholics, and 51% identifying themselves as Christians spanning some 30 religious groupings.[2][4] The same survey says that other religions (including, for example, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism) collectively make up about 4% of the adult population, another 15% of the adult population claim no religious affiliation, and 5.2% said they did not know, or they refused to reply.[2]

However, suggesting what you know about religion is analogous to what you know about American religious practice seems entirely specious to me.

Got 14, the last question about the first great awakening tripped me up, being extremely specific to American history. That being said, the only reason I got questions like "is a public school teacher permitted to read from the Bible as an example of literature", among others correct is because its a pretty common question on tests like these. So does this test measure my knowledge of religions, or my knowledge of tests meant to measure my knowledge of religion?

15/15 with a guess on the awakening question. Knew it wasn't Billy Graham so it was a guess between the other 2.

15/15, though wasn't so sure on the US centric questions (constitution and great awakening). Would be interesting if there was a more eurocentric version.

An ordinary educated person should get no less than 12/15. I wouldn't be too shocked at getting next to 15 at all.

The people who get 8 or less must be ignoramuses.

Or not raised Christian. If you haven't read the bible or gone to any Church/Mosque/Synagogue other than for weddings and funerals, Abrhamic religion is hardly likely to be your specialist subject on Mastermind now is it? As an atheist, religious texts aren't typically the first thing I reach for when I'm looking for something to read.

Funny how the higher level the education the more a person understands religion. Would be interested in seeing a study comparing someones level of education and their beliefs.

It's not a study and it won't answer your questions about how well people understand religion (or not), but you'd likely find the Central Statistics Office figures from Census 2011 quite interesting. And it's specifically Irish data, so no worries about what those Americans are thinking. :)

Census 2011 - Profile 7: Religion, Ethnicity and Irish Travellers

If you look at Page 13 particularly, you'll see some interesting findings, including:
Persons with no religion (including Atheists and Agnostics) had higher levels of education than the general population.
They were more than twice as likely to have a postgraduate degree or diploma compared with the general population (17.1% and 8.2% respectively) and more than half (56%) had a third level qualification compared with 35.5 per cent of the general population.
Among the cities Galway had the highest percentage with no religion (10.5%).

I'm thinking I might want to take my 13/15 score to Galway for a little holiday :)

Don't know how I got nirvana wrong, but I'll take the hit on guessing wrong with the First Great Awakening...
