02 Student Broadband - Possible Mistake

    E10 a month / 15gb a month / free E60 router / 6 months contract / no payment until second month

    http://www.o2online.ie/o2/shop/student/ scroll down after clicking.

You just need a student to login then you can enter whatever details you like.

I was onto o2 phone support and they said it was no problem to just use the student to login then use someone elses details. Also you can sign up as often as you like. Nothing is in the students name is what i mean you just need their access.

Notice how all the prices are 9.99. I think this is a mistake. Makes no sense to have a 6 month contract and a 60 euro router thats yours at the end. The other day the offer wasnt there. In the ads theres no mention of a free router and the non wireless stick is even 30 quid so this has to be a mistake i reckon.

Mine arrived in 2 days so order no and youll get it for christmas.

For the how long have you been with the bank and living in your house i just put 10 years and nothing was mentioned.

If any student are reading this i highly suggest spreading the word and letting friends and family use your login. Bloody fortune to be saved. It will be in their name and not yours.

    Look at the 3rd deal.

    nomAodk.png

70 sterling for that modem on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-E586-Mi-Fi-Mobile-Hotspot/dp/B009A9OT22/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1387403679&sr=1-4&keywords=Huawei+E586 :)

Just gonna throw comments mentioned here.

The amount paid if you go over 15gb is only .06c/mb on this deal. Thats another tenner for another 15gb.
No big nasty bills if you just check the usage every couple of days. Make the My account page your homepage and check everytime your online. Most your gonna go over is a couple of euro before you realise.

Your link is bringing up a different wifi router with a cost of between 30 and 50 euro depending on contract length, still very good value at a tenner a month for 15g

Apologies, just scrolled down and seen the free one you posted!

Does the details like how long have you being with the bank, really matter?
I have no idea how long.....

I just put down 10 years and the same for the living in your house. No bother.

Just make sure you put down correct DOB as they need this to verify your account when calling. If your signing up for your parents or something put in their correct DOB rather than just random if you dont know.

    Flog it on adverts.ie

    Done :) Handy to have.

Unlock code for the modem available on ebay here too.

    Depends purely on your area/coverage.

No. No broadband speed is guaranteed. Too many variables.

    notice the up to

But you can move the router to the best spot in the house and it will be much better than say.... tethering your 3g phone or whatever.

This is a great option for maybe kids with tablets. 5 devices able to connect and far less to pay for breaking limits. 0.06c per MB compared to a cent on the normal package i think.

    Bloody nice one. :D

I see a massive influx of unlocked routers heading for adverts.ie in about 6 months. or maybe even 6 days :D

Yes if you go over the limit it still works out at €10 for another 15GB. Considering i used 33GB last month its just as well this is the case

Ive seen a mate on 3 get a bill for 80 quid and he barely uses the net. He was on skype a bit but he only used about 20 gbs instead on 10gb.

Thats a really good part of the deal that people need to realise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭Chet T16

I pay 10 quid for ~750MB of data on my o2 phone contract!

I highly doubt that seeing as each MB over the 15GB costs €0.02. You sure you have got the bill for that month already because that works out at about €368

Maybe he means its an additional add-on.
Like purchase an extra 15GB for €10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭mcw92

Did anyone get confirmation emails about it?
I didn't, starting to wonder did i enter my email incorrectly.

    No it doesnt.

    15000mb @ .06c is 9 euro
    15000mb @ .02c is 3 euro

Id say your missing a point somewhere

Got mine straight away. maybe check Spam or contact their live chat.

"We have received your order" is the title of first mail.

Then after 1 or 2 days

"Your O2 Order is on its way!"

    Nope I'm not, 1024MB * 18 = 18,432 * €0.02 = €368.64

And I don't think you can avail of a data add on for your mobile broadband

"The data add ons cannot be combined with O2 advance plans, Blackberry, O2 Broadband and/or telemetry price plans or Blackberry push email services"

Thats 2.0 cent. the deal is .06 cent. On this deal going 15gb over costs 9 euro but i see what you mean. Is the full price actually 2 cent per mb without this deal? Thats crazy high.

edit yeah crossed wires. This chap is/was on the Student deal which is 9euro for 15gb over.

    donegal11 wrote: »

Id assume so but even if you dont you have the unlocked router which your free to move to anyone and get whatever deal is going.

These student deals have been going a long time but i think the mistake here is the free router rather than the tenner.

look at the other deal at top of o2 site and youll see a 6 month contract means paying 60 quid for a router.

    Confusing but do you understand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,385 ✭✭✭FourFourRED

I often went well over the 15GB allowance and I was paying €14 or €15 max per bill and I mean going over by decent few GB's.

Ah ok, didn't know about the 0.06c for students, partly because I've been charged 2c per MB over the 15GB whilst on the student broadband plan

Do you know how long they've been offering this 0.06c deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Digital Society

I checked this offer a good few months back and only the first router offer was there. I could have sworn that offer always said .06c per mb. So at least 9 months i think.

    As DS said above
This deal has been available for a while, just not promoted much.
and yes when I asked in Oct, it was only with the slower modem, 7mbps not the newer faster one, so check that before getting

that huawei has a design flaw. the charger connection is flakey as hell, I got one 10 months ago, as soon as I got it, it started getting harder and harder to charge as I had to wiggle the cable and hold it in for it to charge.

brought it back after 5 weeks, must have taken a fall they said (it didnt) and as it was outside of the 4 week hardware warranty they didnt want to know.

Picked up a different brand one for 20 on adverts to see me out of the contract which I cant wait to get out of.

I know its only an anecdotal story but the lesson is if you get it and it starts getting hard to charge, log it with support immediately.

You have a 12 month warranty. They are obliged to send it to a repair center. If the repair center says it fell and there is no visible sign of one demand a second opinion.

They (carphone warehouse) did send it to repairs. And yes, repairs did say it fell despite no visible damage.

I asked how can they say that despite no visible damage, they can say a fall caused the unit to degrade over several weeks to the point it wouldnt charge. that sounds like a design flaw to me whether its that particualr unit or all of them.

I was then told that there nothing they can do as the repair center had said it was a fall that caused it. Contacted cust. service who said same thing. Nothing about a second opinion option. the 4 week warranty is on the hardware.

Actually the more I think about it, the angrier I get about it. Im getting back on to them.

Meteor back in September (may still be doing) a €10 a month deal. 20GB limit. Speeds i tested over a week were averaging the same as O2. No need to be a student.

Was Sim free, but you can pick up the modems cheap. I had one lying around.

There's no colleges to pick from when I have to select my college from the drop down menu so I can't proceed. This is happening me with all the O2 student modems and not just the one highlighted on this thread.

I asked about that on the website, the rep answering said it was a flaw with the website and to try again tomorrow but said they could not comment on deals when I asked would it be the same price when it was fixed. They weren't much help!

Just off the phone to O2.
There was indeed a pricing error on the hotshot with 6 month contract.
This has now been fixed by them.

Still the same on the site although the college dropdown is still broken.
