Not the fastest but it must have some uses.

    TP-Link WR740N 150Mbps Wireless N Router

    £2 @ Amazon

You will need to use Parcel motel so perhaps not such a great deal.

Use it as a cheap switch .
Comes with a European plug so you'll need an adapter.

    Also:

This item is available because of the new Add-on programme
The Add-on programme allows Amazon to offer thousands of low-priced items that would be cost-prohibitive to dispatch on their own. These items are dispatched with qualifying orders of £10 or more, and are eligible for free delivery.

    Tom

    TL;DR
You need to purchase something else to purchase this for 2£

Would this be suitable as a wireless Bridge? (or whatever they are called)

14.95 for me too. I've installed a load of these as a very basic router in shops all over. Been going 1-2 years at least with no issues. Firewall rules are a bit restrictive, and I can't comment on the wireless to be honest, as I usually disabled it. Definitely a bargain at 2! :D

What does a switch do. Will I see any benefits to this with a home network, our ISP is UPC.

A switch is like an extension lead for a network. Plug the existing modem into the wan port of the tp-link, and the four lan ports will all have internet available on them. Handy if you only had one internet cable that you'd move between devices. I use one of them at home as a wireless repeater. Input into one of the lan ports, and will rebroadcast.
