Batten down the hatches. According to those in the know tomorrow evening and tomorrow night should be very stormy in Galway. Might be a good idea not to cycle to work and to secure any outdoor decorations if you fancy them still being there on Thursday.

This better not be another disappointing weather letdown.

    bring it on.....

although I don't really believe the forecasts anymore. Any "big storm" or "major flood" they predicted in Galway has always either ended up as a bit of a slight breeze or a small puddle.

    Hopefully this is different.

The Coast Guard has advised the public not to go out on exposed coasts, cliffs, piers, harbour walls, beaches, promenades or any other coastal areas while the weather warning is in place.

The Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare are closed to the public from 1pm today due to expected strong winds.

High winds have caused damage at Kent train station in Cork where a canopy over two of its platforms was blown off.
The canopy landed on cars in an adjoining car park and a number of cars are thought to have been damaged.
Emergency services are at the scene, but it is not yet known if there have been any injuries.

High tide could be dangerous tonight as there is a storm surge as well. I wouldn't advise walking on the prom, spanish arch or nimo's pier.

Was going to go meet someone tonight but will leave it, chances of an accident with another car/bike/person/fallen tree are just too big.
I can feel the house shaking - it's a night in for me instead :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

If at all possible could ye get pics if ye're near flooded areas? Stuck here in a room with no windows studying for exams I might have to swim to.

I live in one of the buildings just behind the Aquarium, very near Toft Park.

My street (Quincentennial Drive) is completely flooded, I can't go anywhere unless I want to step knee deep in water.

Careful with letting the dogs out to go the toilet. My dog is terrified and ran off to hide. Had to carry a 25kg dog home because she wouldn't walk herself.

Well it's a bit cold for that, unfortunately! :pac:

People are standing in front of my building taking photos, but it's kinda dark to be able to take good pics I would have thought. Like that pic of Toft park earlier.

just been for a lovely prom walk but I'd say it was fairly hairy at high tide, there're rocks of approx. a foot length lying on the Prom and on the road opposite Salthill Hotel and the cobble beach there has totally changed shape... both Rockbarton roads are flooded and a few cars up to their axles in the carpark opposite the Burren Mount... next high tide at 6am...

Gotta wonder why people park there. This storm front was forecaste a few days ago and everyone knows the tides. Car park should have been closed off yesterday altogether.
