Whats deadline date for returning census?

31 January 2014, you have ages. 15th December was the date to count the flock.

Just looking at the form now, for the purpose of the census form, does it make any difference to your payment as to how you classify your ewes ? On a lowland farm how would you classify mules or hilltex sheep, most lowland sheep have a percentage of mountain in them ???

    I called them lowland

whats the craic with the part this year for what type of mark and where abouts on the ewe you put it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,004 ✭✭✭Green farmer

I'm guessing Its for hill sheep out roaming the mountains. They might be trying to pull together a database of what farmers different markings are ?

I think there may be a point where payments are affected, say if you claim commonage/hill but on your census you put down that you only have lowland sheep. You're not likely to be putting them to the hill. So your payment on the commonage HA may be called into question.

Now, as to mixed flocks, and where that % line is drawn I cannot tell you.

It's something I'd seek advice over on Monday if it's bothering you. Better be safe than sorry for filling in a form

I met a fella last week who puts Zwartables to the hill.

the theory behind it is when there is commonage inspection being done that the sheep grazing the hill can be checked without catching the sheep on the open hill, this will catch a lot of the smart boys who are not grazing the hill for das and sps. know one guy with a big hill right who has only a flock of pure texels,
con you will need two extra pages for to fill in your markings only joking.

I was only thinking the last day I'll change my raddle policy, might go with yellow for the first 17 and green for the remainder, as I'm picking replacements out of the first 17 days mainly.

The blue brand isn't in the best spot for using raddle but that's where it's staying!

Go to Single Farm Payment, then Farm Details (top left), then Sheep Census and you can fill it in from there.

I see there's a box for "Sheep Markings not provided" - do you not have to fill in that part?

Same happened me with DAP in 2013. Had to send Register and copies of sales dockets to Portlaoise. In fairness the lady I was dealing with, got it sorted, but took about 3 months.

Is next year's payment based upon this years census?
