How to target a specific area of the body

    Hi,

So basically I've been going to the gym for about 6 months now, sometimes 3-4 times a week and sometimes maybe only 2.
I only really do classes as I just dont enjoy using the machines for 40 minutes, I find it boring.

I normally do a "fitness suite" class 2 or 3 times a wee. This is like a circuits class, a mix of weight stations and cardio stations, its usualy 40 minutes long and each time round the room you focus on different techniques, heavy and slow or fast and light on the weights. There is a mixture og lower body and upper body exercises.
I do kettlebells once a week too.

My arms and legs have improved greatly, I'm stronger and they look more toned. I used to always feel like I should cover my arms, now however I feel confident leaving them bare.
This is all great, however, my stomach and upper back (around the bra line) have, if anything, gotten bigger! My middle is starting to look out of proportion to the rest of me!

The stomach I can handle, all my size 12/14 clothes still fit, so its not too bad. But these pockets of fat around my bra line are causing me some major confidence issues, what can I do to work that area? Will it just take longer to get a result in those areas or should I be doing something different.

You can't target a specific area.

Are you wearing the right size bra?

Yes, it was only recently that I went to get measured. Plus, its starting to become noticeable even without a bra on :o

So theres no particular exercises that work the back muscles? I know I could just google them, but I don't always believe those fitness articles on the internet and I don't wanna end up doing something that isn't gonna help.

Working any particular set of muscles will only strengthen the muscles underneath any fat. All you can do is reduce overall body fat and hope that it comes off the area you want.

I should probably carry on with what I'm doing then, maybe increase the cardio a bit and hope that it starts coming off a bit.

Yeah. It's probably not that anything is gettting bigger but that everything lse is getting smaller and they're the last areas that the fat will come off from so consequently look like they've gotten bigger relative to the rest.

If you're losing bodyfat, then keep doing what you're doing.

Eating less (or better) would probably be what you need to do to lose any extra fat you feel you are carrying.
