It's a few months away I know but I'm already looking forward to it :)

    Cool new website too

    Also a 25% discount code: XMHOL13

€15 for what you get is great value IMO, great turbo material.

Chicago and Edmonton are the new kids on the block. San Diego and Kitzbuhel gone (Kitzbuhel has the ETU Champs year). London is in May! San Dieago.

What of the Irish? I know Bryan Keane is definitely looking to start more and of course Aileen will look to build on last years World Champs silver in London. Will we see Conor Murphy get on the start line for any? What about Nobel, perhaps a move to IM 70.3 after success last year? I doubt it but who knows.

I'm sticking my neck out now...despite being genuinely delighted for Gomez last season, Johnny Brownlee is the future and I think he will take it over his injury prone brother, who may have his eyes on some other prize anyway.

Perhaps a mod could change the title from "Triathlete" to "Triathlon" :o

Great value - the only thing I didn't like last year was that you can't download the races to watch offline (I couldn't work out how to do it anyway).

I'm looking forward to the Cape town one too.

Any one up for making this a prediction competition this year? Basically come up with a system of gaining points per race and an overall league? :)

a boards Fantasy league for the season?

Select 3 Men and Women before the race and get points based on their results , your score will then be based on the total combined score of your selection.

    points per position:
    1st - 300
    2nd - 250
    3rd - 240
    4th - 230
    5th - 220
    6th - 210
    7th - 200
    8th - 195
    9th - 190
    10th - 185
    11th - 180
    12th - 175
    13th - 170
    14th - 165
    15th - 160
    16th - 155
    17th - 150
    18th - 145
    19th - 140
    20th - 135
    21st – 25th - 100
    26th – 30th - 75
    31st – 35th - 50

Fastest swim, bike or run split of the day - 20 points
    DNF -50 points

Hows about for every race in the mens you can only pick one of the brownlees/gomez if more than one of them are racing?... will make it more challenging.

I did consider looking at a budget and assigning a value to each athlete, in the same way all the other Fantasy games are ran.

It may not be fair or correct but we could remove them from the equation, (no one can pick them), and the official results will be adjusted accordingly and appropriate points awarded.

We do one with the golf each year that works off the odds on Paddy Power for each race. You need 3 golfers/racers whose odds add up to over 50/1 or whatever.

So you can't just pick A. Brownlee 3/1, J. Brownlee 4/1 and Gomez 6/1, you'd have to pick a outsider at 25/1 or whatever.

Would mean we'd have to have access to PP early in the week of each race. When do they put up their prices? Alternatively we could just assign values at the start of the year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭El Director

Or...if doing it like the fantasy footy... assign values to each athlete based on their ranking points and then just decide on a budget for spending.

    1.JavierGomezESPes.png4220 (JG value is 4.22)
    2.JonathanBrownleeGBRgb.png4195 (JB value is 4.195)
    3.MarioMolaESPes.png3726 (MM value is 3.726)
    4.AlistairBrownleeGBRgb.png3140 (etc...)
    5.RichardMurrayRSAza.png2937
    6.JoaoSilvaPORpt.png2795
    7.LaurentVidalFRAfr.png2680
    8.SvenRiedererSUIch.png2494
    9.DmitryPolyanskiyRUSru.png2407
    10.VincentLuisFRAfr.png2243

That can be done for all 123 female athletes and 150 male athletes.

So for example - the budget is say 7, you could have:

    Gomez 4.22
    Luis 2.243
    Rana 0.379 = 6.842

Person with highest total - once you calculate their points from that race wins.

Problem: The budget would have to be moving as the scores move up after each race.

Just an idea...perhaps too much hassle though.

I like the fantasy league scenarios. Before we establish scoring etc, are we doing a fresh lineup each race or submitting say 20 m and 20 FM athletes before the first race and that's it for the season?

Double points for Grand Final too.
I like the idea of fastest split primes, dnfs, penalties etc..

Mooloolaba WC means the ITU series is only around the corner. 20 days actually. Keane, Shaw and Conor Murray in action

So are we on for a fantasy league for the season.

I propose we use El D idea for valuing (using their world ranking points).
    http://wts.triathlon.org/results/rankings

initial budget 7000 (for example may need to be adjusted as the womens points are less than some mens)
Teams to be picked by midday the Friday before hand.

select 3 athletes total value under 7 :)
Allowed 1 free transfer per race.
any additional transfer costs you xx points.

    points will be awarded
    points per position:
    1st - 300
    2nd - 250
    3rd - 240
    4th - 230
    5th - 220
    6th - 210
    7th - 200
    8th - 195
    9th - 190
    10th - 185
    11th - 180
    12th - 175
    13th - 170
    14th - 165
    15th - 160
    16th - 155
    17th - 150
    18th - 145
    19th - 140
    20th - 135
    21st – 25th - 100
    26th – 30th - 75
    31st – 35th - 50

Fastest swim, bike or run split of the day + 20 points
    DNF -50 points

and if interested a side game for a select few IM events?

if there is the interest I will setup it up.

    Count me in too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭MrCreosote

    Me too.

How about the commonwealth games as an extra bonus round too?

Does the winner simply get to bask in the satisfaction of being the best, or should all the runners-up get the winner a small tri-related trinket?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Im in and will sponsor a tri related trinket. I think all runner up could post the winner something random and tri related. Could be a gel, book, magazine, bike part etc... :D

    Auckland Start List

Wow, what a field to kick off the 2014 series.

OK folks let's agree the budget (7,000 ITU ranking points?)and pick our 3 m & f athletes for this weekend? Who do you like? 3 Irish racing, any idea why Aileen is absent?

Another thought, your budget may not stretch to the actual podium 3 so I propose picking a scoring 3 and a podium prediction for bonus points. Like 10 points per podium predicted and an extra 20 for exact podium position predicted. Thoughts?

Decision lock down for Friday or anything posted after the race start doesn't count?

Keep same 3 athletes with 1 transfer m & f per race or pick a fresh set of asthletes each race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭BennyMul

Do we need a page on google doc to allow for the tracking of athletes and points.?
I will put on together over the next few days to give time to think of your selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭Fazz

Sounds messy if doing transfers, and allocating points scoring positions etc.

What about each pick 1 male and 1 female for the series.

Then a possible bonus of each race pick your male and female podium for a bonus xxx points.

Or simpler again pick 1 winner per race. Only get points if correct winner.

Then everyone picks the Suarez and Hazard and nobody wins. Its almost as if thats been done before........

Hey did you try this link, (the first one I put in I forgot to open it up :o not enough coffee today)

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhqkcmFQUTRqdFUyZGxOR01lUEZaaG9XN0tUT2Y0QkE&usp=sharing#gid=0

If you then go to the selections tab, you enter your name, use the drop down to select your picks for both Female and Male, the total spend will be calculated for you.

PM if you still have issues.

For anyone that has Sky, (And has the BT sports channels), there is some coverage on BT sport 2 now about the brownlees.

Race coverage kicking off at 1am. Great to see it's getting Live coverage. Channel 414!

Am I too late to get in on the predictions?
