    What food or drink have you only begun to like after initially being disgusted by it?

    For me I'd say, guinness, olives and coffee.

    Curry, spicy food, garlic.

    I don't like any of three you've listed so maybe time to try them again

    Im still in the transition with olives, slightly disgusted and slightly intrigued. Its only a matter of time until Imake the full switch over.

    everything about that is disgusting. If my OH wanted to do that she'd be a single mother pretty fast.

    I don't know if it counts because it might just be tastes maturing as I grew up, but garlic was something I loathed as a kid, downright hated it. Love it as an adult.

    I was gonna say haggis but then I thought no, because I loved that the first time I tried it. :)

    Wine is definitely an acquired taste. I hated it for years but love it now. Only white though, the red stuff is still muck!

    The white of an egg, always hated the taste and texture of it.
    Wouldn't be addicted to them now but would usually have a stab at eating them if cooked right

    And mushy peas, used to stink out the house cooking and served with a sunday roast, would almost ruin it. But dont' mind a dollop or two these days with a burdocks fish supper

    Pretty much every vegetable. Was never a fan of them growing up, but healthy phases forced me to find new ways of preparing them.

    Parboil carrots and broccoli for 2 mins, remove and set aside. Throw in a bit knob of butter into the pot, cook down some chopped spinach, add back in the carrot and broccoli and season with salt + pepper, and some ground cumin if so inclined. Makes one tasty mound of veggy goodness

    +1 for mushy peas. I always thought they were rank and smelled of arse. I'll eat them with fish and chips now though.

    I have always hated shell fish, the only one I would eat was oysters. About 2 months ago I watched Michel Roux cook some mussels and I thought they looked very appetising. Went out for a meal about a week later, ordered them as a started and now can't get enough of them. Still hate lobster and prawns.

    It took me all of 2 hours and 5 free pints to acquire a taste for Guinness during a promotion night they had in the middle of my first week of college.

    It's the best marketing move I've ever seen any company pull off. Surprised they don't do it any more.

    The point is Guinness is an acquired taste, it usually takes more than one pint of it before someone that young actually enjoys the taste of it and AFAIK, Arthurs Day doesn't involve free pints?

    Coffee and wine took a lot of getting used to, especially red wine. Now it's my favourite alcoholic drink :D

    Pate was another one; hated it when I was younger but now it's probably one of the best things about Christmas for me :)

    You can get free pints, depends on the pub though. After one pint they might think "this isn't too bad, I'll chance another" and then they're on it all night.

    The reason it's an acquired taste is because of the bitterness. Humans aren't supposed to like bitter things as it's generally a sign in nature that a plant is poisonous or inedible, hence why a lot of people baulk at their first taste of a hoppy beer.

    I'm still in the transition with olives, slightly disgusted and slightly intrigued. Its only a matter of time until I make the full switch over.

    I am nearly there with olives. Have you tried the ones stuffed with piemento(?) yet? I found them a lot tastier to start with and once I got used to them I was able to move onto normal olives.
    A bit like starting off with chicken tikka when eating Indian food, then Kormas and then onto something spicier.

    I used to hate water but a few years ago I decided to buy a bottle on a whim and I've been drinking it every day since then.

    I still hate most types of fish but I've grown to love mackerel and tuna.

    I think the Irish Mammys cooking method from the last generation has a lot to answer for. I hated so much food simply because I had only ever experienced it as a boiled to death flavorless goo. Once I learned to cook i reeducated the old taste buds and now love all food.
