    Hi all,

had two root canal done about two years ago on said tooth, (2nd back from incisor), so eventually all that was left was outside side of tooth. That broke off today :(

All thats left now is a filling - which isn't loose or anything - so i have a big black lump where a tooth should be!!

Have a dentist appt for Monday but will go emergency before then if discomfort moves to pain. My Q is what happens next? Will the dentist remove the whole thing? I did google it, but all that came up was crowns?

The Dentist will have to examine the tooth to see if there is enough structure left to predictable restore the tooth with a crown or filling. Also the dentist will need to judge if the root filling is still sealed properly.

If its restorable then a crown is usually best. If it is not then an extraction and replacement with a bridge, denture or implant depending on your preferences and finances.

This is why root canalled teeth should receive crowns in most cases.
