Need help with replacement stove glass:(

Hi , as the title suggests , one of my darling offspring threw a lollipop today and it hit the glass door of my inset stove !! It was on at the time and it cracked immediately .. I was fuming , I told my little lad that Santa won't be able to deliver presents now cause he might cut himself on the glass .. I felt a little guilty tbh.
Anyway , I got a price from Stovax main dealer and it was €225 for the glass alone !! Fitting was extra..
Can someone guide me or do I just have to get this Stovax glass , oh they told me that they can have the glass in two days but it will be in the new year before they can get around to fitting it ..
Finally , the glass is cracked and not broken , can I still use the fire as in , is it safe to use until I get the glass replaced.
Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Heat proof glass is quite dear. You could try the glass crowds they might be able to do it cheaper

Could you get something like that on your house insurance? That's if your excess is not to high?

Thanks for the replys. It's a riva 55.
I wonder will they deliver from the uk , it being glass. Also I will need to have it fitted as I wouldn't have a clue.

In most stoves it is easy to replace the glass yourself, couple of screws in some cases.

Our local hardware shop stocks the glass (Tipperary) and I have a Boru stove which has a large one piece of glass. Very easily fitted, use wire brush to clean and do not overtighten (cracks easy). At 85euros I thought it was expensive enough, but you are being ripped off altogether. Cheaper to live with the crack if no fumes.

I would say €85 was about right. So try something local. Seems like you can source there. It is easy to fit.

Just for the next time you come across a probable like that I used a company called stove glass express based in Ireland who actually send a courier to pick up the door, replace the glass and drop in back within 48 hours. I was highly impressed with the service.

Can't believe the price.

I needed new glass for a Stanley stove a couple of years ago and went to my local Co-op.

The guy went to get the price for both doors and came back and said "I'm sorry but its a lot, its going to cost €80".

I was shocked a bit, for two smallish pieces of glass. Perhaps I was lucky?
