Rte on Twitter saying 17500 homes in northwest without esb after lightning. Where/when was that I wonder?

I think what happened last night was the secondary low got absorbed into the main low faster than the models expected, so the energy wasnt there to bring the type of winds the models expected.
I think you're fairly right there.
Both Met.E and Bracknell expected worse so also over hyped the storm. How many places actually saw gusts above 100kmph in Ireland for example.

Going back to what I said earlier..
There are a lot of readers of this forum who find the analysis of what's upwind of us and how it affects us fascinating and actually 9 times out of 10,the forum thread of the day DOES get reasonably near what pans out a day or so ahead of the met .
Regular contributors here are to be lauded for that.
In the interim, there's a lot of analysis of stuff that potentially might happen.
That kind of discussion goes on at met services everywhere no doubt behind the scenes, but the public dont see it.Those services come out with their blended thoughts/conclusions ie the forecasts we see on met.ie etc.
On a personal note,I have long since not had the time or energy or enthusiasm to spend on weather that I used to and am very glad to see the people on here putting in the effort that they do.
Keep trucking, there's more storms to watch and happy Xmas all.

Drove the m50 from Bray to Blanch one hour ago in a high sided vehicle. An unholy amount of cursing was done along the way and am home changing my pants. :) The gusts were throwing the vehicle around a couple of feet at a time. I hate to think what it would be like if it was any stronger.

Really stacked up over the irish sea now... at least 8 in the holding pattern and Ryair pilots saying they dont have the Fuel to hold and asking for weather in Shannon..interesting stuff...

Unless those planes up there in the holding pattern have loads of spare fuel, there will probably be diversions.

Very disappointing for the pax. But safety is everything.

Doesn't look like there's any planes landing or taking off in Dublin Airport.

Pretty bad alright. Pilots not prepared to land, wind gusts increasing.

You'd really feel sorry for those in the air.

Where is that Etihad going? Looks like Shannon. Balls

Just seen a Flybe plane abort it's landing very close to runway @Dublin airport. Wouldn't have liked to be on that one, it was all over the shop. Very strong cross winds, seem to be getting stronger

    Shannon better at the moment

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Hopefully Shannon has enough room for them so they can get home some way.

Snowing here in Dundalk now :)

loads holding, a few missed approaches and one or two now diverting as conditions have worsened since they started holding.

flights on the ground also holding - winds expected to veer to 230 degrees at 15.00 which will bring things within the tolerance of some aircraft.

It was rough landing just before 11am. I told the stewardess the pilot was a hero.

Say this place will light up if that precip makes it to Dublin. Hopefully it can fall in a wintry form (non-disrupting :D ) for the day that it is.
