1986 2.8 Capri uk car. Import cost?

Hi guys, I'm hoping somebody can enlighten me.

I have looked all over trying to find out the cost of VRT on a 1986 Ford Capri 2.8i.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Cant find the car listed on the VRT site.

As it's a "collector car" in the eyes of revenue they will have to put a value in it and calculate the vrt from there , it will be 36% of what they determine omsp to be but minimum iirc €750 for a 2.8 . Depending on condition somewhere between 750 and 2000 is my guess. Good luck. That's why the old brown log books are in such demand.

To be honest that vrt for older cars is a discrace,I nearly got caught a few years ago for it but was lucky to sell the car with uk plates on it.
The most important things with capris is to get a clean body and chassie.You could pick up a nice 2.0s here and change the donkey if you wanted .not a too difficult job.A v8 would be my choice and just as cheap to do .

Just to clarify, the OMSP of any car under 30 years old is €2000, therefore a bare minimum of €720 VRT. Doesn't matter if the car was bought for £1/€1/$1, it's still a floor of 2k OMSP.

Save yourself the grief and vote with your wallet and find a car that is over 30 years old. It'll fall into VRT category C then (flat rate €200, regardless of what OMSP they dream up). Is it really worth paying shed loads more VRT for something that is 27/28 years old? Nah. (not forgetting a couple of years of crippling Motor Tax to boot)

I totally agree about the VRT, its a disgrace.
Money for nothing and I have been told its not legal!
Were not allowed to enjoy cars anymore!

Don't even get me started on road tax!!:mad:

As mentioned above if your going to have to import a car (paying the VRT), I'd recommend looking for one first registered over 30 years ago for €200 flat rate and the vintage road tax. Even to consider looking back further for a 3.0S or 3.0 Ghia model, but each to their own.

dosent qualify for vintage tax :eek:you will be crucified with a massive road tax:eek: something in the region of 1600+.........
