Canon Error 01

Got a new 700D along with a Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 today. Put the lens on and took a few photos. I set up the menu and what not, took a few more test photos, was pretty happy with the results. Out of nowhere, it just stopped working and I got an error. Clean the contacts error. Pretty standard I would imagine. I tested my girlfriends lens on my camera and it worked perfectly.

The camera takes pictures fine if the lens is not locked in place, but once it is locked in place it gets grumpy. Funny sounds coming from it and the red light on the bottom right of the camera is flashing red occasionally. I believe it's the lens.

Apart from returning the lens to Amazon, is there anything else I should do first? If I clean the connectors with alcohol, will that void the warranty? If they somehow manage to find out.

Well looks like Amazon will simply replace the Lens. Hopefully the next one works well :)
