Everyone has a thing that just makes other people look at them like they have 17 heads when they find out. For instance a friend of mine doesn't really like music?????

My own thing is that I can taste colours, popcorn for instance tastes grass green, steak tastes royal blue, there is a name for this, I am a synesthete.

    What's your weird thing?

    Some people spell weird 'wierd'.
Freaks the bejesus out of me.

I associate numbers with sounds and remember them way too easily ( know my parents and some of my best friends credit cards and PINS)

I pet bumble bees. have done since I was a child. Never been stung. When you do it the back leg starts to twinge.

I don't drink tea. I don't think it's weird but anyone that finds out does.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭ghogie91

Mine has to be like total over doing/thinking things, kind of consume myself in topics or hobbies

As in if I get an idea I research it and go full steam ahead into it until I literally cannot find anymore information on it.

I dont know I have done it until I either have run out of anything else to search on it or when I have finished and someone points out that 'you have done it again'

Its kind of annoying that I litterally pull the good out of everything but as I said I only realise it when I have done it, dont sleep or anything :/

Character defect i believe its called

Apparently it's weird to put cheese in tomato soup. It's the most natural thing in the world! :P I mean it's a classic!

I don't take milk in tea. This is usually greeted with shock by people.

I get ASMR from people talking softly or brushing my hair. I call it 'human purrs'. Only one other person I know in real life gets it. If I've had a stressful day I'll pop in my earphones and listen to whisper vids on youtube, better than valium!

Edit: These things apparently replicate the sensation pretty well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Waitsian

I make cream cracker sandwiches using mature cheddar and peanut butter - yet to find anyone else who would even try it much less like it. Washed down with tea - MMMM!

I'd try it- I went through a phase of cheese and honey and mayo in sandwiches. Another classic ....

When someone brushes my hair I am so relaxed and happy. I'm going to make my boyfriend do it later. Been really stressed so its perfect :)

I don't drink tea either. Gag reflex at the stuff.

But apparently I make a superb cup of tea for others, and have done for years

My weird thing that makes others recoil? On the same theme, I drink strong black coffee. Minimum 2 heaped spoons of Nescaf' per mug (when there's no real coffee/nothing better around). No milk, no sugar.

I dunk choc chip cookies in strawberry yoghurt.

I used white pud as a pizza topping when I was running low on stuff in the fridge.

I like airplane food, cos it comes in little boxes.

Its not that unusual but a number of people have recoiled at it over the years, I eat the entire apple including core, the only bit I dont eat is the stalk.

I dont like showers so I usually have baths. Even if Im in a hurry Ill run a shallow bath rather than take a shower. If theres no other choice I will use a shower, like at the gym, but given a choice, always a bath.

The thought, sight or sound of submerged shipwrecks makes me feel physically ill.

Can't watch the bits of Titanic where they're exploring the actual ship.

Couldn't cope with the photos of them raising the Costa Concordia. I was literally nauseous.

    I (effectively) don't drink alcohol.

It's no biggie to me. I have no problem going out on the beer with me friends but you'd be amazed how often you get the cold shoulder when some find out. My policy is keep it to myself and try to avoid discussing it with strangers/ acquaintances.

    effectively? why add that

Plus, that's actually kind of common, you just gotta meet people who don't bother with pubs.

What kind of people do you meet? o0.

I often just get the "really?...right on ye, well done" or (by foreigners) "you're not Irish".
But why would anyone give you the "cold shoulder"?

I don't drink tea - I think it tastes like metal. A lot of people are bewildered over that.

I don't believe in ghosts or anything like that but I get a weird feeling in the presence of people that believe in a spirits (good and evil) at its extreme its an almost out of body flying experience.

I call it my bull**** detector as the last time I had the extreme flying feeling the guy that caused it disappeared when the authorities started to investigate his credentials (claimed to be a medical Dr and he wasn't).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭meoklmrk91

jimi Hendrix saw music as a colour puzzle and the guy who has the record for reciting pi see's pi as a color jigsaw...are you a genius by any chance?

They would also be synesthete's then, it's just associating colour with something that shouldn't be associated, I always thought that everyone tasted colours until I said it one day and got the 17 heads look, also had someone ask me if I was sure I wasn't slightly autistic considering the whole tasting colours thing, then two weeks ago I was listening to a podcast and they were talking about synesthesia.

Considering I misspelled weird in the OP I don't think I am a genius :P:o

    effectively? why add that

I might have the occasional glass of wine with food or a hot toddy if I have the flu.
Plus, that's actually kind of common, you just gotta meet people who don't bother with pubs.

It's not that uncommon really but I go to the pub all the time. To me it's a minor detail but it can be a difficult subject to avoid as much as you try. I like being with people and I don't even mind when people are plastered and I'm not.
I often just get the "really?...right on ye, well done" or (by foreigners) "you're not Irish".
But why would anyone give you the "cold shoulder"?

I've had a million different reactions over the years from the feigned 'good on ya'[get me the fcuk away from this guy] to ambivalence to hostility ("you think you're so much fcuking better than us, don't you")* but thankfully I've made a lot of good friends that couldn't care about it.

*usually where a well-meaning mutual friend would intervene where someone new offers me a pint or tries to encourage me to move onto shots with everyone else. Again, not announcing has always been my policy.

I cannot have any volume button reading at an odd number - on my tv/stereo it can be 14/16 etc., but it cannot be 15. It actually bothers me, I've even changed it in other person's home - like they will adjust the volume and I'll pick up the control and adjust it by 1 if they leave it on an odd number.

Mine has to be an odd number, and no multiples of 5.

    So 1,3,7,9,11,13,17,19,21,23,27,29,31 etc

5,10,15,20 etc are absolute no goes.
