    ...and define fit.

You can get smaller (as thinner) in a month
    Fitter... a bit
Also depends what that means to you (fitter as being able to walk easily run a few km or run a marathon)

Well I haven't exercised seriously or been eating healthy for at least 2-3 months but before that I ate super healthy I exercised vigorously five times a week and I also trained with weights a lot. But as I said the last two months I've stopped it all and let myself go a bit. Basically I'd like to be fit enough to play a sixty minute game of soccer without collapsing. I have four weeks to get fit and I have access to weights and large green area. I was thinking of sprints and HIIT ( skipping , jumping jacks etc.) and also a bit of stair running and weight training? Could all of this combined with a healthy diet plan/meal plan get me reasonably back on track?

If you're playing at centre half half you could play 60 mins tomorrow, I got away with it at the start of every season (at a fairly low level). I'd say in 1 month you can improve alot but if you last the full game you've probably not ran near as much as you should have (again I'm speaking from experience  )

maybe get started with anything and then take it from there.

remember to foam roll and stretch also.

Get more sleep and train smart

Ok I'm going to go for my first training session , sprints (70-80 m ) , shorter sprints (10-20 m) followed by a warm down of jogging a few laps and preceded by a warm up and ten mins of stretching. Wish me luck!

There's a reason I used to pick myself at centre half for the first 2-3 games of a season: I didn't fancy puking my ring up in the centre circle :D

    Stretch at the end, no?

More effective than at the start I'm lead to believe.

    Do both.

throw in some body weight exercises also or include it into the sprints

    e.g. metcon of

In 2mins - run 200m and in remaining time do 5 burpees and then as many squats as possible in remaining time, rest 90secs and repeat with in 2mins do - 200m run, 5 burpees and as many pull ups or press ups as possible in remaining time. Repeat both variations with 90secs rest between each for 3sets of each.

Bigger bang for you buck when you consider your goals.

Insanity for a month? I've never used it myself but some of the posters on here might know a bit more about it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beachbody

"Insanity is a workout regimen similar to P90X in that it claims to improve fitness in 60 days through strenuous stamina training. Developed by Shaun T., Insanity's advertising emphasizes "max interval training", a method of exercising during which one works out strenuously for 3–4 minutes and then rests or "cools down" for approximately 30 seconds before starting the whole process over again. This is more intense than traditional interval training, during which participants alternate mild and strenuous exercise for roughly equal lengths of time. This program claims to promote noticeable results through core strength, as well as intense cardio training."

or you could train properly for a lifetime i.e. mobility work first, strength work, then a metcon of 7-10mins to finish, more mobility work, of and refrain from sugar and wheat

Seems to be a lot of ppl giving up wheat now. For every article I read saying es no bueno there is another saying that the no-wheat movement is a faddy type thing and will pass.

    It's all very confusing

There's a huge portion in the food industry (& sub industries like farming, pharma companies) who's sole interest is people staying on wheat so ofcourse you're going to have counter arguments! Give it up & judge how you feel without it for yourself!
