Good days racing tomorrow even though it looks another Mullins benefit day.

Just the one bet for me.

    Cork

2.20: Twinlight - Hugely impressive on his first run out, he looks to have improved from last season when he showed some decent form. Evens

    Punchestown

2.35: Bright New Dawn - He's an absolute picture of a horse and was a decent hurdler as shown when 2nd to Champagne Fever at Leopardstown last season. Like most of Gigginstown's, he should improve for a fence and don't think Dogora is the strongest of Mullins favourites. Also, contemplating having a small bet on him for the Jewson before tomorrows race. 15/8

    4.7/1 Double

I think 2.50 Cork Way Up In The Air 4/1 is a great price. Think she'll take a stack of beating.

Word in Navan today for Rich Coast tomorrow rated 100+ on the flat its a decent maiden hurdle I didnt like rathvinderns bumper form but he proved he has a serious engine in cork,O Maonlai was 3rd to thetullowtank in Naas, can see this being a lively betting heat

Might back the Mullins bumper horse for Cheltenham before tomorrow.

Lots of Memories is thrown in of his weight 1.15 Cork 2/1.Mullins is making the price this should be 5/4.In the bumper at Punch its madness going against Mullins but his horse here wont want it to quick as he is by Heron Island and could be caught for toe close home.Oliver Mckiernan has been very quite over the last couple of years but if any money for Lean Araig would be interesting currently 25/1.This not a strong bumper and with a couple of Scorpians short in the betting there could well be a shock.

Black Hercules is plenty short in the bumper. Looking forward to seeing him however

Had a small bet on him for the festival bumper at 20s when he was first entered up. Willie indicating now that Shaneshill appears to be his number one however

I'll be absolutely stunned if he's number one come March. Don't think Willie would have said it to the media if it was true

Ruby's thoughts on tomorrow from his Examiner piece...
Clonard Lad is my first ride tomorrow in Punchestown. In terms of ratings, it’s a good race for him, but two miles will be plenty sharp enough.

The further he goes, the better he is. He’s in good form and should go well but he might find one or two too sharp for him.

I ride Arvika Ligeonniere in the John Durkan Memorial and you’d imagine he’ll have to improve to beat an in-form Flemenstar and Sir Des Champs. Form is temporary and class is permanent - it’s as simple as that.

But, I suppose what you’re going on is the fact Arvika won the Clonmel Oil Chase, has improved for the run and seems to be really well.

Flemenstar wasn’t so impressive in Navan and Sir Des Champs is having his first run of the season and so you’re thinking to yourself you might have a chance.

But, on current ratings, he is only third best.

He’s a second-season novice and should improve - we think he has - but he has to.

It’ll be an interesting race tactically and I’m really looking forward to it.

Dogora tries again in the beginners’ chase. He was unlucky in Gowran, first time over fences. He fell out on his head but he’s none the worse for it and has been working really well at home.

I ride Daring Article for Robert Tyner in the two-mile-six handicap chase.

He’s a consistent sort and looks on a workable mark, though it’s a good and competitive race.

I haven’t had many rides for Robert Tyner but I’ve had a bit of success for him. He’s a shrewd individual and I’m happy to be riding for him.

But, the one I really fancy tomorrow is Black Hercules, in the bumper.

He’s a gorgeous big individual, who won his point to point and I love the way he does things at home.

If it’s all doom and gloom by tomorrow evening, he could be one to get punters out of jail.

Willie runs three in Cork, getting going with Rathvinden in the maiden hurdle.

He won his bumper there and returns to the scene of the crime.

He has schooled really well and this doesn’t look the hottest maiden hurdle of the weekend so I suppose he’ll be a bit disappointed if he doesn’t win.

Alelchi Inois, who runs in the Grade 3 hurdle, has to overcome a disappointing effort in Navan.

It was a step up in grade, they always seemed to be going too fast for him and he didn’t jump as well as he can.

The step up to three miles should help but it’s only two weeks since he ran and there aren’t many opportunities for him..

Twinlight, who was very impressive in Naas, runs in the Hilly Way Chase.

He jumped like a buck, travelled really well and, basically, sluiced up that day in Naas.

He’s much better going right-handed so Cork should suit and Willie also has a great record in the race. He has a good chance in what is a very competitive race.

Obviously he'll be prohibitive odds tomorrow but he seems very sweet on Black Hercules for the future.

I honestly think he can't really tell his No.1 anymore given his wealth of talent. Pique Sous went off shorter than the friendless Champagne Fever in 2011 and Briar Hill the same, obviously, last festival. He never seems to have that strong a view on his bumper horses standings bar hoping he's put Patrick on the right one.

With regards to Briar Hill, apparently he doesn't show a great deal at home and its impossible to gauge those horses for a race like the Champion Bumper.

Agree but, even allowing for a type like Briar Hill, the fact that his horses are winning Irish bumpers so easily makes them very hard to evaluate. Black Hercules will most likely win by half the track tomorrow, as will a few more of his before March. Very hard for him to judge which is best when they're winning noncompetitive races and not facing each other.

You lads sure do like backing Mullins horses @ frankel like prices.

How a horse could start @ 1/10 on in a national hunt race is beyond me.

Sure faller insurance is more than that.

    I personally don't rate Mullins

Apart from the Fly what great horses has he trained.

And it shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Istanraq, Best Mate or Kauto Star/ Denman

And as for chasers, he's useless.

Meades bumper horse has superior pointing form,he was second to a horse if Willie's called tarare who is a brother to tarla, then he won his point beating Andy Kelly of emma levalle's who is decent enough the 4th horse Vaniteux won a novice hurdle in sandown yesterday for Nicky Henderson.

Surprise Florida Pearl only won Novice Chases @ Chelt.

Not being funny but had he ever trained a senior chaser to grade 1 victory at the festival ?

The RSA is for first year chasers.

He's never trained a Queen Mother/Ryanair/Gold Cup winner.

I can't think of one decent older chaser he has that would cut it with the big boys.

That's why Gigginstown don't send him loads.

Even Mouse Morris trained a Gold Cup Winner

I think there are certainly worse bets to be had than Catimini in this opener at 10/1. Gets 7lb from her male counterparts and has improved with each run.
Could be the fly in the ointment.
Nothing else jumping out at me today. So far anyway.

Good shout on this one Rossom, quite fancy her too.

I have Oscar Zulu in my tracker with a very short comment "back next time" he runs in 145 Cork and is 12/1. Caveat: I have backed him but am out and about so cant check when he didnt run on his merits imo.

    Willie on Black Hercules:

Black Hercules looked very promising when winning his only point-to-point. He is a chaser in the making but, as we usually do, we're starting him off in a bumper (3.35). He looks smart and should be able to show what he is capable of.

    He 's 2/5 on.

Such fuss over a 2/5 shot.

Would you honestly back @ that price in bumper?

What? Are you doing bets for me now?

Unlucky with the The Fugue/Sky Lantern double. Does that come off yesterday's 800/400% profit or today's undoubted profit.

    Apache Jack very strong here

Rough Justice apparently had a big reputation last year but has proved to be very disappointing

Too short for SDC to be seen at his best and normally needs the run.

    Apache Jack very strong here

    The money was spot on

God that Rough Justice is a disappointing horse. Surprised Gigginstown are still persevering (although at one stage I'd have said similar about Shrapnel but a change of scenery did the trick for that one)

Interested to see this beginners chase here in Warwick. Mr Mole vs a highly touted French recruit Vukovar.
Looks a match anyway. Vukovar 4/6 Mr Mole 7/4

Take the bigger price in a match so!

Nicely done McCoy 13/8 a nice price.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,564 ✭✭✭kiers47

What a nice ride by McCoy. Dissapointed really that Vukovar couldnt put them to the sword. Looked at one stage that he would win by 10L.

One I like today is George Nympton in the 1-40 @ Warwick.

Has won twice over course and distance including this race last year and is running again off the same mark. 7/2 seems fair enough to me.
