How do you install a chat app on a tablet without smartphone registration?

Buying a tablet for the ould pair to stay in touch with the sister in Oz but I've run into an unforeseen problem.

They want access to the usual apps like RTE Player, Skype, Whatsapp and Viber; the issue is that the latter two require phone registration (rooted from a smartphone) and neither of them use smartphones.

Does anyone know a messaging app that you can register using a regular old school Nokia instead of a smartphone so that they can use Viber etc on their new tab?

I've seen some fixes online through installing Bluestacks but this seems like a far from perfect solution.

Has anyone any experience of this issue? Or can recommend other chat apps that can don't require smartphone registration?

    Cheers
