Just drove back from Rathfarnham to Cornelscourt via the M50. Very hairy out there, visibility terrible, wipers unable to really cope, and rain in one constant, unending sheet. Wind tugging the car a lot and found myself slowing a lot more than normal.

Horrible. If you can avoid travel, avoid Travel..

Well you must have been having a dream maybe about a storm ;-) it was a lovely night in the coastal town .

Seems unfair to me, there was a pretty clear statement made here and I assume by the Met service that strong winds would cut off somewhere between Galway Bay and Belmullet. Thus it would implied that the code red warning would not apply in those areas. This probably explains why one poster had the strong winds and another did not, either it's exposure to the west or one of you lives a bit north of the other. Wind speeds can vary tremendously over small distances, think of people chasing tornadoes and if they could measure the wind at their own location while filming one, it might not even be 20 mph.

Regular posts from a Murrisk based boardie during the night gave a somewhat different story.

    1. were you really in Westport last night.? Nothing calm about the weather then. an internet search shows a 75 kmh gust at 1.53 a.m last night and one at 46 kmh at 5.49. That is the sort of weather I recall last night.

    2. Locals call it Westport or the 'port. While "coastal town" is a correct description, locals do not refer to it as such. The clue is in the name.

Reason for calling it coastal town is cause it's along the west coast .westport is on the west coast of Ireland .
Those internet weather reports id take no notice off .not accurate enough .
A storm. Consists of heavy rain and gale force damaging winds .well in the coastal town .it had none of the above .light rain at times,.and winds wer not gale force .im glad they weren't to tell you the truth wud have Been a rough night .

Mad mad weather here in Eastern Europe. 3 weeks ago daytime temps struggled to -4c during the day, -12 at night with upto 70cm of snow. Since Christmas eve its mad warm, today the warmest of the lot, i recorded 14.7c about an hour ago. Have been outside in a T shirt the last few days sawing wood from storm falls. Today feels like a march day, everyone says its so weird and strange. No real sign of any cold coming. This warm air is up to Moscow and even lapland in Finland. Charts show cold air coming, but it keeps getting pushed back and back. Now looking at 2nd week of January for any sign of cold.

Oh yes. And was lucky enough wind speed was nowhere near recent days. ;)

Sadly it won't last long - cables have telephone plugs, so I have to connect them using simple phone couplers/joiners. I want to keep the things like that not to lose possibility to do a quick and hassle free change of gauges which I have a spare set of.

The problem is, the only couplers you can buy nowadays are cheap Chinese crap made of steel wires, so obviously extremely easy to get rusted with an immediate connection failure.

It's my custom now to jump up the ladder twice a month to mantain a good connection. :)
