A piece on the news tonight about the Chinese space program.
They are sending a manned flight to the moon and hope to within 10yrs exploit the moon for its valuable resources.
They certainly think outside the box the ole Chinese, fair play to them for their vision.
My question is should any country be allowed exploit the moon or should this be controlled to prevent humans fecking this up as well or can humans be entrusted with its safe keeping.

I always raise an eyebrow when the word 'exploit' is used.

If they want to find a functional use for it, fair enough. But for the love of ****e, stop ruining things for us and future generations.

Well, feeding 1.3 billion is no easy task.
I guess popping into tesco wasn't on the cards so they have opted to travel to the moon and back for their wengzhlideyong.

Don't they realise there are aliens on the Moon? Someone should let them know about this great documentary called Apollo 18!

Doesn't the US own the moon as of when they placed their flag there.

The chinese will have to purchase the mining rights from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,859 ✭✭✭Duckjob

As long as they employ local moon-folk for the mining operation I don't see a problem.

Tbh, if anyone could pull it off it'd be the Chinese.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭topcatcbr

I don't see why not. If they can and it's financially viable.

As for who owns it. That might be who can occupy and defend it will own it. Same as for the mainland.

It's not a planet? WTF is it so, an illusion in the sky?

Being that it's a chinese rocket they'll be using, if the odd, nauseating smell of cheap plastic and rubber and crappy electrics doesn't get them, the garbled instruction manual will:

" Launchering Method: To acquire the blasting pop - fairly acquire the mesure for pressung butron 6 then switch for lever 19 in proportional difference to landing..."

    Good luck with that lads.

If it drives a new space, then good on them. It's a pity the last one petered out. I'd love experience leaving this planet before I die, I'd say its some experience looking down on the planet, hopefully it becomes cheap enough before I die

The Lunar Scramble...surprised its taken this long...

Though, if one follows David Icke's thesis, then they'll find the world government hidden inside.

Surely the day of being able to get a four-in-one with curry sauce at 2am on the Sea of Tranquility is but a matter of time. This ought to end well. They should aim to cut the mine into a massive "Fruk you USA" on the edge that faces back towards us.

They might as well just mine the whole thing until its all gone. Hate surfers.

If they chop a bit out of it, will we still have a full moon? There could be an upside. Full moons send me nuts altogether.

I presume the Chinese are planning to harvest Helium3
Energia the rocket makers from Russia also have plans to harvest the moon as well as various other companies
Helium3 is considered an important fuel source for fusion nuclear reactors
The present nuclear reactors are fission

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,029 ✭✭✭Rhys Essien

There is no stopping the Chinese. They already have their own Space Station. The Skys the limit. They will probably be the first on Mars aswell.Already painted red for them.
