Totally agree it could have been handled better and skys excuse of running out of Stock of older boxes is a lame one....but glad we can now get the I/O Links but I will be happier when price has dropped dramatically.

The Triax Link has 2 RF-outs & a PSU input for link amplifiers.

Using an IO link and magic eye can I run a cable from my SK+HD box to another set top box in another room and control the sky channels through the STB? Is there a STB that can record this output to disk much like the Sky box?

e.g.

Room1:
Sky +Hd
TV
IO Link

Room 2:
STB
Magic Eye
TV

The IO link just does what the built-in modulator did in earlier Sky boxes: provides a UHF analogue output of the currently selected channel. This can be viewed via any device with an analogue tuner such as the vast majority of TVs or a VCR or DVD recorder & could be recorded on the latter 2. It also handles the "magic eye" functions, sending the remote control signals to the Sky box.

Don't know if there's a HDD device that can record RF analogue signals.

Thanks Ronnie, the reason I asked about a set top box with recording was due to the fact that I only have one tuner input on my TV in 'room2'. I want to be able to duplicate the sky output only at certain times while also being able to receive freesat/saorview.

I was hoping I could get a set top box with recording capability such as an Amiko Alien, that would have a triple tuner where I could connect a Saorview aerial, sat connection and the Sky+HD box output. Then combine the three into one HDMI output to my TV.

From what you are saying, I will have to use th tuner inoput on my TV for the SKY output, and then HDMI for the saorview/freesat. PVR will be restricted to the STB with no capability to record the sky output.

The 3 tuners on the Alien & others like it are 2 x DVB-S2 (satellite) & 1 x DVB-T (terrestrial, some models might be DVB-T2).

No capability to do anything with the analogue Sky RF output.

Sorry to go thread digging.

I was handed one of these IO Links in a box.

I have multi room downstairs. No interest in getting another box in the bedroom.
For the Bedroom TV. Do i need to get the magic eyes to change the channel in bed with a remote on top of this?
Or is that already built in to this device?

You need an 'eye' for remote control to work, yes.

Presumably you already have a coaxial cable between the Sky box & the bedroom TV you want to send the signal to?

I'm not in the house yet.
I will do shortly though.
I've a sky engineer coming on Thursday. Would he do that for me?
