Whenever I go abroad I am disgusted by their milk. In Spain I've been in shops that don't even refrigerate the milk. German milk is also disgusting, British Milk is probably the closest.

Have you ever drank milk in a foreign country that is nicer or as good as are own?

No but that's because it's usually UHT milk and there's not much demand for that around here because it's shyte.

In the Netherlands you can't buy any more than 1 litre cartons of full milk. 2 litres+ containers of milk only come in half-full (semi-skimmed).

I really don't like drinking semi-skimmed milk, but I suppose the Dutch consider full-fat too unhealthy to sell in larger amounts than 1 litre. The 1 litre full-fat milk is pretty tasty though.

Wouldn't see much of a difference between Irish and British milk now but we definitely have nicer milk than the real Europeans. Watery, sour auld poxwater.

I buy fresh milk here (Spain) just for my tea and baking. Tastes grand but goes off very quickly. Dunno why. Can any cuilches fill me in on that one?

    Maybe it's not pasteurised?

I dunno. I used to get all my milk from the cow's nest on our front door step when I was young but now they farm the wild cows and you can only get it in shops.

Most of the milk sold in Spain is UHT, so it doesn't need to refrigerated until you open the carton. It means that in a hot country like Spain you don't need to spend huge amounts of money keeping the milk cold while transporting and storing it.

Fresh milk in Spain probably goes off really quickly because those handling it take less care keeping it chilled, and also because you don't drink it within 24 hours of bringing it home. You can keep your fridge extra cold and you might get another day out of it, but it depends entirely on how much time it spends out of the fridge.
Protip: keep a small little milk jug and use that instead of putting the carton on the table at mealtimes. The milk in the carton will last longer.

Personally I can't really comment. For me, milk's purpose is really to cool down tea and make cornflakes soggy, so anything which isn't avonmore supermilk tastes really gross to me.

Koiwai Farm milk from Iwate is the best in japan.

When we lived in Ireland, my wife was always surprised by the quality of all our meat and dairy.

Yeah it has no mention of being pasteurised on the bottle. That must be it. Am I going to die as a result?

Really, a tall glass of cold milk is beautiful.

Thanks for the tips. ;) If I'm feeling up to it, I usually freeze half of it and it seems to be okay. Not like home but better than that UHT muck they pass off as milk here.

What are you on about

There is a very large range of milk in Germany, UHT and 0.5% fat upwards. UHT is muck and anything under 2% fat is practically water. You can get some beautiful bottles of creamy milk, better than anything I've tasted in Ireland. But the only milk I've tasted in Ireland is the supermarket carton variety so not really an equal comparison. I'm sure if I got a bottle of creamy milk in the supermarket in Ireland it would taste just as good.

Its to do with the bacteria contained in the milk. Spanish bacteria are worse than Irish bacteria in that regard, the heat makes them more thirsty so they have to drink more fluids faster.
