Dont be doing this to me lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Boots2006

I have one of those for about a year, the spec might have improved since I got it, but it's grand for the money:
    - plays most videos fine
    - I get between 3 and 4 hours battery watching videos
    - picture and sound quality (headphones) is good
    - speakers are quite tinny
    - a bit laggy for browsing
    - lightweight
    - plastic screen scratches easily

Good value at the price, and I don't care about it getting bashed/stolen/scratched - just fire it into the bag and away you go.

    I like this
As we mentioned when we were finding uses for old smartphones, a tablet can make a good dedicated device for one permenant part of your home. You can load it up with recipe apps like Epicurious and cooking videos so your primary device doesn't get messy.

Just spent 299 on a tv on the german online black friday today so like. Gonna lay low. Especially after buying the two tablets on DX :p

It's just your generic A13 7 inch tablet. They have been this price since before I was born. A thread pops up on them every month or so repeating the same stuff.

I bought one 15 months ago, lower price than this. $39.99 on Alibaba/Aliexpress

    They are shockingly bad.....

Unresponsive, crap battery, laggy, sluggish.... All that said they are still worth more than 30 euros :)
    A kebab meal costs €10 :)

For those of you who know this or similar systems, how would this suit an 8 year old kid for playing a few games on (Angry Birds level, not expecting 3D stuff to run well), watching videos (including Youtube) and basic internet browsing?

I literally only want one of these for netflix, nothing else, zilch, nada... Is it worth 30 quid just to get my daily fix of 3 breaking bad episodes???

Bought one of these cheap tablets from DX last week, order is still processing it turns out they don't have the tablets in stock, they go to a supplier to source them and then ship them.

    just ordered 2

Gah, why are they always 7"?! I'd be willing to pay as much as €45 for a godawful 9-10" tablet.

I ordered 2 as xmas pressie. also have 1 generic one like this and still worth well over 35 fans works fine for kids even me at times.

This is as generic as generic come really. Called Q88 sometimes. Looks like the V1 with the really crappy battery? The price is about €10 less than hongkonggeek, which are usually rock bottom.

EDIT: Yes, the Q88 V2 has a back camera too and double the battery. This is the V1.

Yea but try watching netflix on a kebab it's just not the same.

I got one of these back in March (exact same model). By May the screen was acting up. A friend got one at the same time and after two weeks the wifi stopped working. The supplier was less than helpful but I eventually got a replacement tablet, an refurbished unit which powered up once then hangs on boot.

On the other hand, other users have had no problems with theirs. I'm not sure I should say this, but in some ways I feel I got value for money because it cost me 40 quid and got me through my holiday and the long stop overs in the airports, but personally I'm going to spend my money on a better quality tablet. It might cost more but it'll perform better (especially in terms of battery life) and hopefully be of a quality that will last much longer.

Bought one from ebay last year to my little one ~ 35 euro before duty fees. Cheap and cheerful. Plays monster high videos and angry birds games very well. Battery holds approx 1.5-2 hr what is good so she can't spent whole day there. Plenty of fun for little money

Anyone know if you would have to pay any customs charge on one of these ? And anyone have any dealings with this crowd before - just wondering if theres any hope of getting it before Christmas. Thanks

Most likley, yes. Answer for both questions.

Thanks, went for the black one - came to €38 euro total, here's hoping they can't charge much (customs) on that !

I'd avoid if I were you.

This is (as has been said) a very generic A13 Tablet - In fact I have one thats bricked -

PROS: Cheap!, runs apps fine from Google Play store, Youtube etc...
CONS: You WILL get hit by customs, Don't expect it shipped by Christmas or soon after (Chinese New Year looming), screen is rotten and scratches like hell, no Hard Reset option and soft reset is flaky at best to try and perform. Battery life is dreadful <2 hours.

But ... if you want something for €50 inc Customs off you go but it is not a patch on something like a 7" Versus that can be got for around €100 in an bricks and mortar store.

Probably get hit for the €15 min handling fee.

Probably get hit for the €15 min handling fee.

There's a minimum fee ? - I remember being hit with only a couple of euro fee for a watch before ( came via an post) ??
Anyway hopefully the tablet won't be as sh1t as you're making it out to be !! Will only be using it for Netflix , if it does that ok I'll be happy !

Do'nt panic, it will do the job..
Not everybody can afford (or need) Mercedes..
If you want Samsung put x8 times more money on the table
You gonna have plenty of fun with this 38 euro tablet..

    Is this the V2 ?
    http://www.hongkongeek.com/en/android-and-windows-tablets/1762-tactile-tablet-q88-v2-android-40.html

Works out at 43 Euros - but the Duty covered with this (so thats good)

But only difference I can see is the Back Camera
(CPU, RAM and battery look the same??)

Any recommendations on any similiar but still cheap one? (for not hugley demanding tasks - web, kids games and netflix)??

wouldnt mind getting this for my dad for xmas, hes never had a computer/laptop but was on my iphone recently and loved it.

Is it worth getting for someone with their 'first' computer?

That's odd, but elsewhere on the web they say he V2 has a much bigger mAh battery. In fact, it you Google translate the reviews on hongkonggeek for the V2 they say it's pretty good.
Haven't tried one myself though, so mind me really!

I had ordered one, but got an email saying it was out of stock. Was given the option to wait it out or cancel - I cancelled. Looking at other threads in BA (one for tablet for 21euro & one for hand held game console) no one seems to have successfully gotten anything from this crowd ! It seems no matter what the product is they don't have it in stock. Lots of people who don't want to let go of a 'bargain' are waiting it out.
Does make me wonder if its all a bit of a scam (albeit legal) to have lots of people's money 'resting in their account' for a couple of weeks accruing interest.
    Just a thought !

They had the same one in powercity last week if anyone is really stuck.
The one with one facing camera.

65 euros (reduced from 70 euros) but a 2 year guarantee (which I think is very brave of
    them)

Was playing with it- seemed ok - opens stuff fast- screen not as vibrant as samsungs but as good as the hp beside it - camera was unusably bad.
Hadnt got much installed so couldnt give a good tryout.

Looked decent enough for either price.

I got one of these a while back, came to about 38 euro posted or so. Is fine, battery not great as expected, screen isn't bad though, acceptable quality and responsiveness is good, apps like netflix work OK, and browsing is fairly acceptable overall as well. Can't really fault it for the money.

Dropped one off a bed, about 2 ft of a drop. Smashed in smithereens, sawdust fell out of it. Screen wouldn't work. Wouldnt pay me to get it repaired.

Apart from that they are ok.

Well as everyone knows - once you let the magic sawdust out of these things there is no getting it all back in to make it work again.

Looks like a good build, seems sturdy, the glass is tough enough, the UI is very good and its fast. It wouldnt be great for HD stuff or movies, but for games or reading it seems to do the job.

It depends what your dads requirements, but if this was for me, i wouldnt like it, i like high tech, high end gadgets.

Thanks a million for reply! it would only be for general internet use and writing emails. hes only learning all this new stuff as he calls it so wondering would it be good to start him on. he likes the iPad so was going to save and get him that later in the year but buy him this to start him.

anyone got a personal review on this? considering getting one but read the battery is shocking and you can't actually mute it so would be nice to get another review from a boardsie rather than a randomer on the site
