Stronglifts and diet

So I just started stronglifts and I noticed on the guide it says to consume around 3000kcals a day, I don't really want to take this advice without finding out more, so does anyone know how I can make a good estimate of what my calorie intake should be?

I've counted calories the odd time before and 3000 would be a hard one to do on a day I don't do a heavy workout.

I do eat plenty of meals that have a good amount of protein but the only weight I want to put on is from muscle, if anyone has any links or advice that would be great, thanks a mil.

What's your height and weight now? How much protein are you eating daily?

3k calories is just a ballpark figure, it obviously cant apply to everyone so just ignore it.

6 ft, 86kg and in around 120g protein a day. Yeah thanks man I sure will, but even on the protein thing there's all sorts of different values on the internet as to how much you should be taking and some of them are just opinions, would you have any advice on protein intake and I'll go have a read on it?

http://simplesciencefitness.com/ <-- that is a good resource imo. 120grams is lower than usually recommended, 160-170 would be more like what would be recommended. There is a body of thought that the high protein recommendations are just sh1te spouted by supplement companies to get you to buy more of their product though :)

You'd be looking at what, 2.6k-2.8k calories daily to maintain, something like that. 3k+for you would be grand if you are bulking.
