How many Boardies will get a Faulty PS4

Right just sticking this poll up now as I'm sure we have some Boardies who might be in the US and have their PS4's, and a lot of us will hopefully have them by this time in two weeks. But as I'm sure you have read there has been a small number of PS4's have been Out Of Box Failures, and won't even display anything on screen, this has got me worried about the chance (I know its small) of getting a faulty console. So it will be interesting to see if any of us get a dodgy one.

I'd be surprised if anyone does. There's been, what, 10 reported instances of failures out of a million consoles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

Good choice making it a public poll. I don't have one yet, and I'll not be buying it till better games are out. Hopefully the issue proves to be very rare.

All those reports are exaggerated IMO. On Sites like reddit, a lot of people say its not as bad as the Internet warriors are making it out to be. Also, bear in mind that some people will do ANYTHING to get bad press/image for the PS4.

To be fair though, both IGN and Kotaku had issues with their consoles (I believe Kotaku's was already resolved) and two major game journalism sites to get dodgy consoles is either indicative of a more widespread problem or some of the worst luck for any manufacturer ever

too be honest this thread was like asking fanboys of all nature to come in and post:pac: why post this thread on something that has not even came out yet in Ireland were the majority of this site is based

also the fact the like what 0.04 percent of the console that was released was only faulty which is very impressive, this thread is just a waste of space:pac: I see 0 results for yes and 9 results for no
so it appears even ps4 fanboys are saying no :pac: do you get the point? no one cares:pac: its more of a mock thread then anything else:rolleyes:

Judging by the US Sony support forums, it seems like it might be a little higher than 0.4% of people having issues.

One guy even bought 2 PS4's and both had the blue light of death. What are the chances.

Yep ...its looking more serious than first reported .

From another link I posted in another thread
" But I'm thinking of paying off the console in full now and just leaving it sit in the store for a week or two now as the reports of faulty units are starting to really mount up now . I know ppl from the US on another forum (Guru3D) that reckon as many as 60% of friends/family consoles are faulty. One guy reckons that out of 3 consoles on his street all where faulty .One of these guys is a 10yrs on the forum and is not just someone on spewing crap. A hell of a lot of the consoles that where purchased are put away for xmas ,so its hard to gauge a realistic fail rate yet.

    "
The problems are much larger than Sony is admitting. Out of the 5 people I know who purchased a PS4, two are screwed up. One of them is doing the red-light shut down, and my brothers sounds like a hairdryer.

Right now on Amazon, the CONFIRMED buyers are reporting by the hundreds that their PS4's are not working properly. Which works out to be almost 40% of confirmed owners who wrote a review."

    "
Talking to 3 of my neighbors this morning, 2 came DOA and the other is crashing when loading. I feel bad for those who have issues. Software issues, firmware issues are acceptable for early adoption, but dead unit's and other hardware issues. There are always going to be glitches in new hardware but this seems quite extensive just out of the gate. Sony dropped the ball on this one big time. "

    10,000 consoles.

    http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/19/sony-says-ps4-failures-have-varying-causes/

Small considering a million sold, but 10,000 customers are pretty disappointed!

That's actually very good, nothing is manufactured with 100% reliability it's almost impossible and that's from the first production run. Think about the amount of parts and components and the fact there the consoles are still hand built to an extent, people make mistakes, its the human condition.

Glad i decided to wait now after getting stung with rrod on 360 i said their was no way i was early adopting prob get it in the new year when these issues are resolved
Although an engineer buddy of mine did make an interesting observation that their are two internal heat sources inside the ps4 in a small area with what he considered very poor ventilation

As I posted in the mega thread, mine had BLOD. Worked okay for an hour then wouldn't't start up even I'm safe mode. Should have replacement by Thursday according to Sony. So turnaround is quick enough at least.

Wow sorry to hear that was it made in China? Was it a pain working through their customer service? Do they just look for the console itself back or have u o return box controllers etc?

a one percent failure rate would be incredibly successful - far better than any console ever released

no chance it'll be that low though

Mine was fine - and I installed a new HDD straight away too so I was adding to the risk. I checked it beforehand and saw it was made in China. As soon as I did, I took it out of the box and inspected the HDMI port but there was nothing wrong with it. I have had it on almost constantly since I got it and have had no issues.

I think this China thing is being overblown. I've yet to see ANY stock made in Japan, and I don't think there's any correlation between which Foxconn factory the units were made in and malfunctions. Sony has claimed that most of the issues are due to the units being damaged in transit

Yep made in China. Customer service about five minutes on hold, were great to deal with, ran through a few troubleshooting things I'd tried already. Said earliest courier could get to me would be two working days so Tuesday, and would have new replacement console in two to three working days after that so probably Thursday. Was quick and painless. So hopefully it'll have quite a quick turnaround. Just sending the, console. No wires, cables or controllers. Courier picks it up, don't even need to package it. Just hand him console.

3rd Party, Harvey Norman's. Tried ringing them first to see if they'd have a replacement but knew they wouldn't with it being launch day.

Pretty decent turn around from Sony then, if they get a replacement to you next week

I may have voted too soon. Mine now keeps turning itself on and ejecting it's disk. Then it keeps trying to eject a disk that's not in there every ten seconds or so.

Yeah I was happy with that, I thought it could be a few weeks with it being launch day and all so was fairly pissed off, but another week isn't so bad.

Think I read somewhere that the Blu-ray drive is noisier as it's a 6 speed drive vs the ps3 which had a 2 speed drive. So normal

Got some audio issues but it's hard to tell if it's due to the PS4 itself or BF4, the issue continues into the home screen always after manifesting in only BF4.

    Connected over optical.

Nah mine's definitely fecked for noise. Watched a few videos and they're near silent. Mine gets crazy loud.

Such a pain in the ass to sort it out with Smyths/Sony.

Do I just go in and they give me a new console right then and there?

My brother got his from HMV. Spend the last hour trying to get a disc into it with no luck. None of the solutions we tried from online has worked.
