my choice for **** can of beer goes to ''premium dutch larger'' 1e in supervalue i have to say i never tasted quality that bad even if it was a euro. it has a strong dry taste you would think it was a special brew but its only 4% vol.

Best ''Dutch gold'' 1e in dunnes stores,i have to say i looked down on this beer in the past it has a bad reputation and is commonly referred to as piss water by some, but after trying it i find it clean and refreshing,if you have one can,you will want more.

Yeah but if you fancy 2 or 3 beers and only have a couple of euro, you could find a gem in the budget brands.

I'll happily grab a Hobgoblin or similarly priced ale any day of the week, but the lager you get for a euro is seriously rank :o

I rather have one, than 2 or 3 Dutch Golds, or Carlings. Plenty of good beers for little over 2 euro out there.

Porterhouse Hophead and Brainblasta for €1.99 in O'Briens.

    Coopers, Brooklyn Brown at €2.29

and Budvar at 5 for €10

    Worth the extra euro.

4 packs (bottles) of Leffe or Hoegaarden in Lidl for €4.99.

Several stores have their own brand German lager brewed on licence according to Reinheitsgebot conditions. Usually less than €1.30 a can & great at that price if you're just looking for something cheap & cheerful to wash down a pizza. Examples would be Dunne's Germania & Spar's Ludger's Gold. Would drink either of them before plenty of big brand (& usually more expensive) lagers like Heineken or Carlsberg.

Karlskrone from Aldi is really good. 15 squids for 20 bottles, 330ml, although they don't always have it.

    Sorry to disappoint.

The 99cent cans of stella in tesco are not bad. Only 4% but if you drink enough they do the trick. Find i dont get a hangover from these .
They fly off the shelf, always running out in my local.

Those stella ones are about the best of a bad lot. If you want to have a cheap and cheerful drink though you may as well pay the small amount extra for a pack of Carlsberg or similar.

Prazsky 4 cans for a fiver or perhaps the rarer Primus for the same price found in some Centra's. Or Vratislav at 1.20 a bottle in Tesco 5% Czech beer.

Nothing is safe. Beer used to escape the attention of pretentious, beer hipster, pseudo-connoisseurs with their lensless glasses but alas they're slowly but surely capturing that territory too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

There's nothing hipsterish about liking beer that tastes good.

But my personal favourites for cheap drink is the O'Shea's range in Aldi, their Irish Red is fantastic.

Nothing like a few cans of Wife Beater.

Stella Artois in case you didn't know.

indeed, the attitude of some of the posters on this thread has been laughable, apparently its wrong to drink cheap beer even if thats all you can afford.

I have got some good tips though especially as one poster mentioned ''tuborg'' i have not had that in years.

Nothing is sadder than using the word 'hipster' to describe something you don't like.

Perhaps you wish to return to the halcyon days of Guinness, Budweiser or Bulmers as a your beverage choices?

It's beer. Drink it, enjoy it and shut your hole.

    Has to be Vratislav.

Cheapest beer I have found, and quite tasty tbh.

Tyskie is another decent one, bit more expensive though.
