BBC THREE HD and CBBC HD are coming on 10th December 2013.
BBC FOUR HD, CBeebies HD and BBC NEWS HD are coming in January 2014.

A test has appeared on one of the BBC's HD transponders showing CBeebies in HD (which is odd, you'd think they'd test CBBC and BBC THREE first!)

    If you want to have a looksie, it's on 11.023 H 23.000 2/3

And now it is showing BBC4 n HD - and both SIDs are active at the same time - as they were earlier.

I now think BBC3/CBBC will be on 10.847 V with BBC News on the as yet unused 8921 label. Exactly when they will appear is not yet known.

Nice to see another BBC stream in HD though. Now roll on BBC2 nations and BBC1 regions.

AFAIK both SIDs are pointing to the same video stream like Cbeebies/BBC4 SD

hopefully we will get these channels on the Irish epg, propably not the BBC News one as for some reason that channel is still not on Irish box's.

I have just gotten word from a reliable source that CBBC HD is now testing on Satellite.

    Frequency : 10.847 V (Well Spotted Jimbo) :)
    Symbol Rate : 23000
    ID: 6951/52

BBC Three HD is surely to make an appearance tonight I'll bet. :D

Of course there is a reminder they cannot be broadcast on Sky boxes to their limited spec.

BBC Three on now in HD. Looks more like upscaled though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

BBC ONE NI HD is now on 101 on Sky for those in NI and UTV HD is on 103.

BBC 3 HD and BBC 4 HD are now testing, with CBBC HD and CBeebies HD testing during the day. Only BBC NEWS HD to start testing now. They are all expected to launch on 10th December 2013.

This is because you don't subscribe to the HD pack on Sky. Only those who do will get the swap on 101 and 103.

    What EPG is this?

If that was in reply to me, I actually do subscribe to the HD pack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

If you subscribe to the HD pack, then why isn't 106 Sky 1 HD, 107 Sky Living HD etc.? This is what happens when you subscribe to the HD pack, the HD channels swap with their SD counterparts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I've got the four channels in HD when I tuned them in last night.

I think separate channel labels mean they won't be shown only once, in fact, they will be shown twice. That is the situation with my combi box now at the minute.

The picture resolution is much more improved on them because of it's upscaled format.

How long will it take for BBC News to begin it's testing in HD?

You might want to contact Sky so as you have the wrong EPG for Sky HD

8921 now carrying full epg for BBC News channel. EPG details start from 6am next monday morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,568 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Well spotted, starting 6AM on 25th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

The EPG details are for Monday onwards, this is in no way a guarantee that the channels will launch then.

No. When I put my Irish card in, I have the correct EPG (Sky News HD at 501, Sky Sports news HD at 405, BBC1 HD {not NI} at 141 etc etc.) And I don't really want to contact them and let them know I have a NI FTA card!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭lertsnim

So you don't have a NI HD EPG

Then you have a HD subscription for your ROI card. You don't have a subscription for NI hence why the channels haven't moved for you. This is only for people with an NI subscription card that have the HD pack.

Fair point. I misinterpreted your previous post when you said that ''BBC ONE NI HD is now on 101 on Sky for those in NI and UTV HD is on 103.'' I thought that the technology would think that I was in NI (with the card) and would update the EPG automatically, particularly when the HD versions are actually on the EPG (albeit down the listings). Apologies for the confusion.

Can a sky box tune in a symbol rate of 22999? I've the Samsung freesat box and that is the symbol I need to use to tune it in. Great picture, bbc really do provide a great service!

Afraid not. 22000 and 27500 only.

cbeebies hd/bbc four hd test seems to have stop broadcasting however i still get the "this is cbeebies hd" in the now/next. I'm guessing this is just to give the extra bandwidth for Doctor Who in 3d today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

Yes, the tests should be back to normal now. Channels must undergo 2 weeks of testing with EPG data before Sky will let them launch so, with the EPG data starting in full from tomorrow, expect the channels to be on Sky, Freesat (and some or all of them on DTT) on 10th December.

Will there be two different versions on the sky epg? An SD version plus a HD version? Will they affect the card trick?

anyone know if these channels will be added to the EPG for Irish sky viewers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

Are BBC ONE NI HD and BBC TWO HD on the EPG in ROI?

If there are, then I'd say it's pretty likely they'll add the 5 new HD channels as well.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

BBC One HD (England) and BBC Two HD are on the Irish epg, the Northern Ireland version of BBC 1 & 2 is only available in SD here.

I checked it this morning. EPG details for BBC News did come up this morning but alas no picture yet.

We should fully assume now that the 10th of December will be the start date for this channel as well as the other stations.

Full EPG details are now up on BBC Four HD since last night.

There is also a new RED Button HD screenshot on channel label 8921.

Hope this works for you now!

BBC News HD channel now Broadcasting Live with EPG

    11024 H DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 2/3

The other four channels now have HD test cards with them since yesterday.

There are some changes in the DOG's from BBC Three and Four as well. You would have seen yesterday that the test card for BBC Three HD DOG has only added the HD sign like BBC One and Two HD while it is still the same size. The more notable change is the BBC Four HD DOG has gone much smaller while it still remains in the top left hand corner of the screen. You see it when the former BBC HD intro pops up now and again.

I was very impressed the with the picture quality on BBC News HD while I viewed it at around 5:30pm yesterday evening.

Does anyone here know what the actual transmission time for the BBC News HD simulcast started from yesterday?

    Well that's fine.

All I know from a rumor that there is an apparent period of mandatory testing that has to take place before these channels can appear on Sky HD.

So it may come up in the next few days or probably within this week.

No. The Sky box only allows a choice of 22000 or 27500 as the symbol rate. These new channels are all using 23000 as the symbol rate. Secondly Sky has to pay BBC worldwide to put these channels on the ROI Sky EPG. They will appear on the UK Sky EPG soon but I'm not so sure the ROI EPG will see them at the same time.....Well certainly not BBC News HD as we don't get the SD version in the first place. (Which kinda makes sense as it's news from another country which has limited appeal here, Sky already offer a news service and Sky would have also to pay for inclusion on their EPG).

Why don't we get BBC News on Sky in ROI? It's already on UPC

Not on a Sky box with a ROI subscription. On a generic FTA box yes. It's down to the symbol rate and type of transponder. Sky have not updated their boxes to scan for transmissions with DVB-S2 or symbol rates other than 22k or 27.5k.

    Have a look here http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&pos=28.2E&standard=All&hdtv=1&ordre=freq&filtre=Clear
You can tune in CH4 HD, UTV & ITV HD as they are on DVB-S and 22K transponders.

    As Sky already have a UK based news platform here on Ch 501. I guess they'd see it as;
    1. Why would they add a channel they'd have to pay for (EPG)
    2. There would be little demand for it anyhow.

UPC is different. I recall they had other BBC Chs (maybe 3/4) before Sky for sure and perhaps others.

Also why would Sky carry an advert free news channel in competition with their own?

    Wow, 1000th post.
