Hey all. There have been a few threads posted here querying this, but many are years old and the latest one was closed due to what appears to be a number of pissing contests going on in it. Please have patience with any forthcoming naïvity, as this is completely new to me.

I am interested in pursuing a course involving health and fitness, it being a big interest of mine and one of the few things I know I can focus on. This is with a view of possibly becoming a PT down the line. I have been out of full-time employment for two and a half years now and have dabbled in 2 courses in the interim that transpired simply weren't for me. Having never pursued third-level education after school, this was the closest I got, and were very intermediate courses, in healthcare and multimedia respectively. After much consideration, I have decided that this would be an avenue I would excel in. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. A few more things to consider are, I do not engage in sports personally. I have developed some knowledge over the years with regards to weight/resistance training and basic nutrition, so im still very much a layman in this field. In one of the older threads, someone had mentioned NCT - Is this worth looking into? I don't have 2K to spend in the least, and I doubt that FAS will assist, having paid for my last course (am I wrong here?)

    Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Vadge, the thread that was ultimately closed is well worth your time to read. If it's the one I'm thinking about it probably should be 'required reading' for anyone thinking about pursuing a job in the industry.

There's been a handful of threads/discussions that will answer the rest of your questions too, and very recently too. Use the following search terms to help you... 'NTC' 'LIA' 'NCEF' 'Image fit' 'setanta', I'm sure there are others I'm missing but that ought to unearth the information you're looking for.

True story. You learn a lot about "professionalism", and what the people in the industry are really like in it.

I have a background in sport and then stopped due to lack of enjoyment, and stayed away from sport for many years. 2 years ago i wen back and got my qualifications through ITEC for gym instruction, Exercise2Music & Personal training. best idea ever, whilst it was quite expensive it has transformed my life, made me more informed and helps to keep me motivated. If you can afford to do it go ahead and do it, very interesting course.
