Hiya, just a quick question. my dad is a dairy farmer with his own herd number. we are interested in getting 2 pigs and 2 turkeys for for freezer. do we need a separate herd number and can we take them to the local butchers/ slaughterhouse to have them prepared.

Dont think you need anything for turkeys
But you need to get a pig herd number for pigs. Its easy got.
Just get the forms from the dept of agri office or online. Fill it out and send it to local office. An inspector will come out to inspect the area pigs will be kept. He will just advise you on a few things. Then you get your herd book .And its all free apart from the 65 cent for the stamp.
