hi i tore my groin, grade 2, about 2-3 years ago, ive gone to physio etc, but still hurts and 'goes' when i run or move quickly. happened while playing football/ 5 a side.so had to give that up as it kept 'going', so what is a good exercise that i can do to keep fit that wont be too hard on dodgy groin. thanks all

How long do you wait after it goes before starting back playing football?

It's the twisting and turning that makes it go so something like running would put a lot less strain on it.

had to give up the footy, like i said it kept going, very painful, at the time i left it two weeks or so,when it would seem grand, might last a further week or so, then would go again, so i became disheartened and gave up. i was thinking of taking up swimming, would that be as good for calorie burning as running?

If you were only resting it for a week, then it's no wonder it kept going on you. The groin is just one of those that you really just need to rest if you're to have any chance of it recovering. And you need to be doing a decent amount of stretching as well before you go to play football again.

just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much would it cost to go under the scalpel to get groin op, id say theres a ton of scar tissue on it,

You rested for 2 weeks then returned to FB then lasted another week, reinjured and gave up! And now you're asking about surgery! Talk about looking for a quick fix!

    Go to a physio!

LISTEN to what they tell you, DO your rehab, DO NOT start back before they give you the okay!

A good rehab program to work on mobility, flexibility, dynamic strength and multiplanar/single leg movement is needed.

To be fair you didn't make any of that clear in your post. From reading your post it looked like you had rested for 2 weeks then gave up.

working with a guy right now that has had a long term groin injury and what do you know he can still do all of the following -

    - row
    - cycle
    - press ups
    - chin ups
    - all core work
    - one arm rows
    - seated and standing press
    - light lower body work and holds

    etc

there's lots you can do. Contact someone in your area that can help with working around injuries

    How did you injure it?

You need to put the muscle through the range of motion that it was going through when you injured it.

Start light and build it up.
