RTE One saying I need a re-scan

I’m hoping someone will be able to help me here. First things first my equipment is a Sony Bravia Television and a Humax HD-FOX-T2 box.

I live in Armagh and I can receive all of the TV stations been broadcast out of the Republic i.e. RTE One through to RTE jn and RTE One +1 running from 811 to 819 on my Humax Box and and on my TV from 800 downwards. I think my signal comes from the Monaghan transmitter.

Here is my confusion. When I go to the station menu on either the Humax or the TV I find that on RTE One, RTE jun, and RTE One +1 instead of listing the stations as RTE One etc they are listed as Unknown and in the information panel says Re-scan Required and yet I’m receiving a perfect picture from all of them. I’ve carried out two scans but still get the same result. All the other stations RTE Two etc appear as expected.

When I press the box's information button Channel 811, 817 and 818 I get the 'in order to introduct improvements' message but as I've said I can receive a perfect picture on these numbers.

I can receive RTE One, RTE Two and TG4 on program numbers 51-53 which I understand are broadcast out of Belfast.

Anybody ideas of what is going on here? And as always many thanks for replies

The 3 channels with no name RTÉ1, RTÉjr and RTÉ1+1 have moved to the new Mux2, the ones you have are the temporary Mux1 simulcast channels which are expected to close shortly.

I guess you get your Saorview channels from Clermont Carn? If so then manual tune to c56, you will get new RTE1 HD, RTEjr and RTE1+1 plus a few test cards channels
The old RTE1, RTEjr and RTE1+1 that say, unknown, they will go off-air soon, this week I think.
If you already got RTE1 in HD and with channel ID name iin the information pop up box and the program description then you not need to do anymore and ignore the message of retune

How long ago was the 'southern' aerial installed? Did you have all 4 Irish analogue channels from a single UHF aerial?

If so & if it's pointing towards Monaghan, it would actually have been intended for Cairn Hill in Longford. If it's frequency grouped for Cairn Hill, rather than wideband, it is probably alright for mux 1 from Monaghan but not so good with mux 2. As for Cairn Hill, it's now co-channel with the local Armagh Freeview transmitter.

First of all many thanks to those who replied.

Peter my aerail was installed 6 plus years ago. It is pointed in the Monaghan direction because of two major obstructions between the aerial and Cairn Hil, which I understand would normally have been the best transmitter for Armagh City. Yes all my stations came from one 'southern' aerial. My Freeview aerial is pointed to Davis

Souriau I've carried out a manual re-scan for Ch 56 and get the message 'No Channels Found.' Im addition I've carried out several automatic scans

What I am getting though is if I go down to 830 then I am getting RTE One, RTEjr and RTE One +1 and the other stations down as Unknown, the complete opposite to those in my first post

Cush when I look at my Channel numbers I have a pretty strong signal for both Channel 55 strength 57 and for 59 a strengt of 46 percent. Each has a quality of 100 percent.

    Cush
, a silly question I'm sure but you talk about Mux's how do I know which Mux I'm receiving?

Hi. Aren't the simulcasts closing later today? Can anyone confirm what the EPG says as to any clue when it is stopping in SD?

Cairn Hill & Monaghan are in the same direction from Armagh. All Monaghan had on UHF 6 years ago was TG4 analogue. Clermont Carn, in Louth is the most widely used transmitter in Armagh.

These must be the new versions of these services on mux 2. Carried on channel 59 are they?

If you are not sure which RTE1 on which mux, then you may find the info in your TV or STB menu setting for channel or service info.

    ___|_____________|__HEX__|_Dec_|
    01 |RTE1 |0x0835 |2101

    07 |RTEjr |0x083b |2107
    08 |RTE1+1 |0x083c |2108

    17 |RTEjr * |0x0453 |1107

Up to last night there was no data carried for the simulcast channels beyond Tue but I see this morning "Rescan required" is now there for Wed also. The switchoff is probably flexible and maybe depends on the level of feedback from viewers/trade etc.

As Peter posts above if you can see RTÉ1, RTÉjr and RTÉ1+1 with channel names and programme data you're receiving Mux2 and have the new channels. You can delete the "unknown" simulcast channels if you wish and rearrange the channels to suit your requirements. Mux2 also carries a number of testcard channels also without channel names, these may be used to launch further channels in due course.

In your area Chs.55/59 are Mux1/Mux2 from Monaghan.

Have a look at the Saorview coverage checker for your location - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/
