Haven't had a proper look at tomorrows cards but one horse I do fancy for tomorrow is the Richard Fahey trained filly Romantic Settings in the 3.00 @ Doncaster, I feel she will really appreciate the bit of juice in the ground and will go very close at a decent price. Reckon she will be about 14/16-1.

Sorry lads just a quick question... when a horse is rated say at 120, what does the 120 rating mean? is it pounds the horse has to carry or what is it? thanks

Sorry lads just a quick question... when a horse is rated say at 120, what does the 120 rating mean? is it pounds the horse has to carry or what is it? thanks

Have a read of this website Micahel: HERE

Horses are rated based on their ability and while a 120 rated horse will not have to carry a weight of 120 pounds in a handicap if a 120 rated horse is racing against a 110 rated horse the system is set up that the 110 rated horse will carry 10lbs less than the 120 horse. Races then are usually given classes then which have corresponding(within reason) rating enties. e.g the 1.05 in kelso tomorrow (here) has entry requirements of 0-110 that means it is for any horse rated 110 and below. The top rated horse then is given the top weight(in nh) of (usually)11-12 and the horses below are assigned corresponding weights based on their difference to the top rated horse.

This weighting system only applies to handicaps there are also other parameters that apply like weight for age concessions(where younger horses will get an allowance against their older counter parts). Also there are fillies and mare allowances. And apprentice jockeys can also get concessions when riding to help them get into the game.

Victor dartnals horse in the 3.05 sandown money flying in..lightly raced ran poorly and up against respectably good horses this time around. Obvious plot or the bookies are playing people...
No explanation for the price being that short

Tomorrow we see the Arkle winner, get your bets on for Cheltenham before tomorrow because there will be no 10/1 available around 1.24pm!

Looks a difficult day, tomorrow, to me. Just gonna stick 2 horses I've backed antepost for Cheltenham in a double, for starters.

    Wincanton

3.15: Wonderful Charm - joined Nicholls yard with a big reputation (Bromley on record as saying he's potentially his best recruit from France since Big Bucks). Suffered with breathing problems in his first season but Nicholls showed how highly he rates him by throwing him into the World Hurdle in which his problem resurfaced. Won a average race FTO over fences but it was the way he jumped which impressed me. Was neat and tidy, never looking likely to make a mistake. Disappointed with his price tomorrow as thought the more experienced Third Intention, with better form beating Rebel Fitz LTO, might (and probably should be) favourite. Regardless, think this horse has the scope to be a bit special (have backed him for RSA @ 16/1) and will follow him until he proves otherwise. 6/4

    Sandown

1.20: Grandouet - Regardless of his hurdle falls, he should take to chasing nicely. Like others here, have backed him for the Arkle at 10/1. If he scoots round tomorrow and jumps cleanly, he'll quickly be 3-4 points shorter anyway. I'm definitely of the opinion that fences will bring the best in him and, more importantly, Barry Geraghty seems to be also. His size and cruising speed will make him a Gr1 2m chaser as long as his jumping is adequate. Is miles ahead of tomorrows rivals on class and should be winning, hopefully in style. 1/2

    2.75/1 Double

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

his jumping ability is too big a question mark for me to lump on Grandouet, and is up against a decent 2nd season chaser, so experience could play a big part.

my one bet of the day is Standing Ovation in the 2:40 Wincanton (5/1), think he's still one step ahead of the handicapper, and has a plum weight of 10-2 against relatively exposed opposition

Really looking forward to seeing Melodic Rendezvous tomorrow and im taking him to win this en route to better things.

I also think Third Intention will beat Wonderful Charm. Just not believing the hype with this WC fella.

Won well last time, be interesting to see what that race took out of him

    Up 10lb though.

At 5/1 looks an each way steal ;)

    Swnymor (3.35 Doncaster 25/1)

Typically competitive and wide open November Handicap at Donny tomorrow with 23 runners and isn’t a race for maximum stakes, but an each way chance is taken on Rebecca Curtis’ four year old son of Dylan Thomas.

A dual purpose horse, he was originally with William Haggas when running exclusively on the flat, and has shown an aptitude for softer ground, placed in a pair of maidens at three before getting his head in front at Pontrefact June of last year, beating a smart horse in Mashaari.

Confirmed himself a smart handicapper, finishing runner up at Windsor off 84, and was beaten only a short head over 10 furlongs at Chester in a valuable handicap last September off the same mark. His six lengths third off 87 behind First Mohican last October looked a bit disappointing at first, but the form is ridiculously strong, the winner has proven himself a smart horse since, and is 20 lbs higher in the weights now while the runner up won this very race off a ten pound higher mark.

That was his last run on the flat and for William Haggas, and he created a really good impression first time out over hurdles at Newbury, winning hard held by 11 lengths, and would be a Grade 1 winner in that sphere if he didn’t fall at the last at Chepstow last January, looking set for victory before coming down.

Rebecca Curtis doesn’t send too many flat racing and he looks well handicapped based on his third to First Mohican, with the handicapper generously dropping him to a mark of 85. He pulled up in his comeback run this season, but that run should have put him spot on for this fitness wise. 25/1 looks a good price with the first five being paid each way with Bet365, and he should do even better this year, he strikes me as a sort of slow developer and should improve physically this year.

I don't think there are that many in the race that look ahead of the handicapper but Swynmor's run behind First Mohican is ridiculously strong.

Some year long aftertiming here actually I was on the winner that day of John Ferguson! Was booked for 3rd and Swnymor came down at the last and badly hampered the horse in second and Ferguson's was left to dance home.

I remember it very well actually because I had a serious **** to celebrate.

    Wincanton

2.40: Pougnach looks worth a bet @ 7's. Top weight but showed some decent form last season. Was 2nd to last week's hero, Houblon Des Obeaux, over 2m5 at this meeting last year before beating the decent Super Duty over 2m6 NTO. Capable of the odd jumping error but looks a real stayer and given his form this time last year, he could be well-handicapped despite his top weight. Nicholls has a superb record in the race, winning 3 out of the last 5 renewals and always seems to target it strongly. Been a relatively slow start to the season for Nicholls as he's openly admitted to changing tactics this season. He's sure to have notched it up a gear and have Poungach primed for a big run tomorrow though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

I thought Wonderful Charm could be a special horse prior to his flop in the World Hurdle but he couldn't have been more impressive on chasing debut, although some will argue Fakenham isn't a course that you can look into too much. He faces a stern test here in the shape of Third Intention and the promising chasing debutant Meister Eckhart and I think we'll know how good he is after today.

I've already backed him for the Jewson and Arkle at 16/1 NRFB

    2:40 Wincanton

This looks a half decent renewal here and I’m going to go with a couple of horses that are on the way down the handicap in the hopes of a return to form here at big prices. Aiteen Thirtythree is down here to a more workable mark of 144 after getting crucified after his novice campaign by the handicapper. The stable does have a great record in this, but that said do have a more fancied runner here. He has looked a bit of a plodder in some of his races but this race may suit him and I’m hopeful that he is ready for his first race in a long time. I’m interested at the 17.5 currently on Betfair or 16/1 with BetVictor.

I can’t leave Alfie Spinner go off at 33/1 just in case he can get back to form of what looks a very competitive mark. On his best form which isn't that long ago he is thrown in here.

1 Point win Aiteen Thirtythree 16/1 BetVictor

½ Point win Alfie Spinner 33/1 Generally

    2:40 Sandown

The minute I looked at this race is couldn’t get past Hectors Choice at 14/1 of a very good mark. He does have some decent form from last year, and has some good form first time out. He looks to have been dropped a few pounds too much and if he is fit he should have a great chance.

    1 Point win 14/1 Generally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,474 ✭✭✭longshotvalue

    1:50 Doncaster

Conry came good at the end of last year and he showed last time out that he may be about to come good again shortly. He is a couple of pounds out of the handicap here but will love the conditions and should really be finishing his race well in what could be a stretch for a few of these. He has been relatively lightly race this season in comparison to most of this field as well which will be an advantage.

    1 Point win Betfair 30

    2:25 Doncaster

Hoof it is 6lbs better off with Jack Dexter for a 3 lenght beating last time out and has been running well this year, if a little bit short of finishing pace a few times. I though his last run looked as good as anything in a while and with the conditions of this race he shouldn’t be 14/1. He has been costing me points this year a few times but in general have been running well and overpriced.

    2 Points win 14/1 Various

    3:35 Doncaster

Communicator looks to have been running this year with this race in mind. He was second last year of a higher mark and has in the past some very decent form in soft ground. I would have expected him to be a bit shorter and have the feeling that the 18 now available on Betfair could look a decent price later on today.

2 Points win Communicator 18 Betfair 16/1 generally

On Wonderful Charm at 20s for Cheltenham like a few here. Surprised to see 7/4 available. I respect third intention but Rebel Fitz completely jumped away his chance the last day. Can't be having Mr.Eckhart at 3's at all for his chase debut. I think 7/4's a bet.

Small bit of a related double maybe in Diakali+Far West? Tempted on a small bet as a couple of firms are best priced both, although I think Far West may be a bit short now at 9/4.

Clare Bel la at Naas is the only other bet. If Grandouet goes shorter than 1/3 i'll consider laying

I'm not usually one for backing horses that have been given a good rise in the weights, and Summer Star is 16lbs above her win at Leopardstown last February, but the form of that race worked out very well, runner up Norah Starr is now rated a stone heavier, third horse has won twice since, fourth won next time out and was runner up in a 50k handicap, sixth won off a higher mark. She went up ten pounds for that but the main reason I fancy her is her win next time out in what was a really competitive big field Leopardstown handicap, looking beaten but got a good ride to just get up under a strong ride.

She's just 6lbs higher than that day and this race isn't nearly as competitive, the runner up that day won a Grade B handicap next time out off a 3lb higher mark, before winning two condition hurdles races and is now rated 2 stone higher than the day he was beaten in the handicap. This is a big enough field today but a lower grade and think there are a fair few with plenty to prove. She should be better for her return on the flat last time out and is overpriced at 14/1 each way at Naas

Rebel Rebellion 10/1 looks well treated as he runs of same mark as last winning thats more than can be said for the rest in the 2.30 San.Shrewd is a mudlark and is handicapped on godd ground so could be very well handicapped 25/1.Lahaag is only 9/1 and he beat Border Legend 3/4 l giving him 1lb and Border Legend is 13lb better in today and is 16/1 ???In the first at Sandown Kilmurvy is bred for a slog and should be there coming up the hill 5/1.
