    Hi,
Can anyone help. Over the last few weeks everytime I put my hands in water or wash them they start to sting. This week as soon as I put them under a tap with just plain water at any temperature they start to sting & the skin goes slightly red. Its starting to drive me crazy. I use things like sanex & aveeno as my skin has always been a bit dry & sensitive but never really on my hands. I use aquaeus (sp) cream on my hands after putting them in water incase its just dry skin but the skin doesn't feel or look dry. Any ideas please? Thanks

If you live in Dublin it could be. I poured a glass of water from the tap last night and it was cloudy and fizzing like there was an Alka-Seltzer in it.

Had similar probelm a few months ago.

Turned out, I was using washing up liquid (not Fairy either!) to wash my hands when I was in the kitchen (Washing dishes, after handling raw meat etc etc). The cheap brand I was using was not really designed for skin washes.

Switched to a generic hand wash and I am now grand again.

Maybe its the washing up liquid? I use fairy ... maybe I should try ecover instead. I use gloves sometimes but if the kids get at them they are wet inside so cant use them all the time

no idea but best to rule it out. then you will know if its your skin.

next step would be to stop using all products on your skin and try to use gloves as much as possible when washing dishes

I'd just get someone else to wash the dishes and cite medial reasons.

My sister used to always pull that one the bitch. Though to be fair her hands did look like a red dragons skin if she put them in the washing up basin. Still....

She still got away with it.

Could it be hard water? I know my daughter was affected by it (our water is very hard) and we had to get a water softener which helped.

Ultimately, this might be the case. Give it a week and see if the irritation still occurs.

    You were washing your hands?

We were supposed to be conserving water the last few weeks!

Washing your hands washes away the natural oils your skin produces and dries out your skin. Just keep moisturising them.

You could also be dehydrated, make sure to drink plenty of water.
