Ticks all the boxes including price point but reports of poor yellow colour reproduction and in some cases Wireless performance.

At time of writing €1,299 will get you
    I7
    8Gb RAM
    256Gb SSD

Thanks. Do you work in bestbuy? Do you know what's availability like on the pro 2's? I'm heading to ny late December and hoping to pick one up as they're 1500 euro on the Irish site!

Lenovo website only place I can see. And they're only offering the more expensive 512gb SSD version for the "bargain" price of €1549

I'll have a look on amazon etc.. Only need the 250gb ssd

Had planned to get the original yoga but considering the spec bump n screen I think the 2 is worth the extra euros

I spoke with Lenovo rep during the week and was advised 256gb expected to be in stock/on line next week @ €1,299

Btw pcworld have the older Yoga model at around €950.

Yoga 2 is far better, screen resolution bump up and not to mention the overdue backlit keyboard.
Yellow should be well sorted out by the time I get one :D

Been like for a few days and I notice the price of older model has dropped again (maybe in lieu of new model coming back online) - who knows.

    I see the XPS 12 (I7, 8Gb, 256gb) is now going at around €1200
    http://www.dell.com/ie/business/p/xps-12-9q33/fs

    (guts of €1600 in Pcworld)

This looks to be a better option. I can't justify the price of the lenovo given the poor colour reproduction in the screen, and the apparantly poor wifi card

Rumours that they're being recalled due to the colour / wifi issues, that's why they're gone from the site I'd imagine.

    another poster writes
"Just off the phone with the UK Lenovo sales team (although it sounds like they are actually based in Ireland) and they have confirmed to me that mine (at least) should ship by the enhd of the week. There is no recall according to the guy I spoke to and no problem other than it simply selling out."
    and
"The whole recall thing was based upon something in Bestbuy's computer system. Could have easily been a glitch and nothing more. Or since Bestbuy is the exclusive Y2P retailer in the US, maybe just the models they had in stock."

    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Pro-UK-Release/td-p/1278181/page/10

So who knows whats really going on

Yoga Pro 2 yellow display issue personally confirmed on one display model. Other Yogas in the product lineup are fine and display yellow correctly but the Yellow on the Yoga 2 Pro looks Like

When on other models it correctly looks like

    All,

Right - no "fix" has yet been introduced to manufacturing, but it will be soon.

It appears that our engineering has taken longer because they have done more than just fix the power manager state change glitch. It appears they have included "further optimizations". I've seen this update demonstrated on a Yoga 2 Pro this afternoon and have been provided a summary explanation which I'll relay here.

    The solution appears two part:

    1) A BIOS update that updates the embedded controller to improve the LCD's rendering of yellow ... coupled with...
    2) An updated versions of energy management that takes advantage of the new BIOS capabilities.

When released to the web, the BIOS will need to be updated first, and then the energy manager. Both should be available early next week. Final testing is underway, and there are some packaging and doccumentation details to complete. I think it will go to the web team by end of this week (which is why I betting early next week).

With this change, it isn't locked in performance mode so I don't think battery run times will be significantly affected.

This doesn't involve changes to the video drivers, so I think we avoid that concern raised above. With regard to other OS's, Lenovo isn't providing formal support for those anyway, so this is business as usual in how we would address any other issue with the product as shipped.

I know there will be more questions... I've shared what I know at this point.

    Mark

It appears the update is available. BIOS and Energy Management Update. I've read it works. Going to try it now.

Seems to have worked for me though the yelllows are still not perfect, but I was satisfied as is, so this is a bonus.

BIOS is dated 10/31/13 according to Windows.

Just downloaded the update and the yellowing issue has vanished on all modes. :smileyhappy:

Great work, Lenovo! Now I have no qualms recommending this machine to everyone I know.

I just got mine today. I got the i5 8gb of ram and 256 ssd in orange and all I can say is it is unbelievable the screen is just one of the best I have ever seen I know about the yellow issue but its not a big deal to me and I don't think 90 % of people will have a problem with it. The only thing at the minute I have a problem with is the touch pad seems to suck the oils from your finger onto it as I can already see the left click corner has I mark after only one day. I will leave more feedback as time goes on because I cant be a reliable sores after only one day

I paid 1400 dollars as I got mine on ebay . if you search Lenovo yoga 2 pro on ebay he is the one with about 10 yogas in the picture he has a price of 1500 dollars up but you will get him down to 1400 and he will also help with customs tax I was lucky as I was charged no tax . one other thing I ordered it Monday and got it today wenesday (fedex priory) 2 day shipping . So it cost 1399.00 dollars which is 1033.00 euro plus 60 dollars which is 45 euro for shipping Total = 1080 euro

I couldn't take the risk of getting stung for customs.

I rang them - actually a 3rd party manages their sales - they said unable to take order unless kit on the website- agree all silly.

I just ordered per tconl above - chap said he would cut same deal (total $120 off). Fingers crossed all goes well - hope I don't get dinged for duties but even I do won't be much more than if ordered through lenovo.

lads that seller on ebay is great and when I got the laptop today he had under valued it at 500 dollars so the tax would have only been 115 euro instead of 345 he very fair and very quick at shipping if any of you buy from him I hope you are as happy as I was good luck and injoy your yogas

yup. came today and still exploring. I was a little concerned that I might have done better with XPS 12, Sony 13 Flip or even the non-convertibles (new xps13, HP 13"<name escapes me>).

Frankly this is a beauty and delighted with my choice.

American keyboard is a non-issue. Will dig up a 3-pin adapter somewhere (mean time travel adapter is being used)

Think I'll pull the trigger on this, I've emailed the seller to see if he'll give me the same deal as you lads got. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a letter from FedEx a few weeks after getting it looking for tax though, I think that's how they operate :/

Any additional thoughts on the product, you impressed with it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭legrand

You are a aware of the colour issue? It is noticeable but for me not to the point I feel I need to return the unit. Some related issue with battery life (where mitigating Bios update + Energy Manager means losing some battery life). I'm seeing day long usage even with 'new toy' usage.

Not sure if fedex will come back later - normally you pays your duties before goods released (we will see I guess) - declared commercial value was set at $500 fyi.

New to Win8 - its 'okay' but what bugs me is the constant switching between Startup page and desktop as most apps are still (old school) programs.

My Android in for repairs following an accident - can't say the Yoga is a very satisfactory tablet experience and other than a movie I watched I've been using this as a regular lappy for the most part.

Still - its far far better than my 4 year old almost dead Sony so pleased satisfied overall.
