I love Anne, but quiz show presenting is a bit of a stretch for her?

Sounds like fifteen to one but with couples.

It'll be interesting to see. She always came across well in interviews - I don't remember her doing anything other than Newsreading but maybe she has more to offer.

Some details of the format ...

    http://www.rte.ie/ten/news/2013/1115/486904-anne-doyle-returns-to-tv-in-december/
Division sees thirty-two strangers on a journey of survival where honesty and bravery are vital, but over-confidence can wipe out every one of your teammates in an instant.

It mixes reality elements and a quiz so contestants must understand the dynamics of groups and have good general knowledge.

The 32 contestants will be divided into two groups - Red and Blue - and placed into separate cargo holds. The holds are locked and contestants must battle it out to choose a group leader to face Anne Doyle's questions on the chosen topic on behalf of the team.

The two nominated players leave the cargo holds and come forward for their first round of questions. One wrong answer can eliminate the whole team.

The sixteen remaining contestants are then divided into two groups of eight, the doors are locked and the process continues until the final survivor wins the contest.

32 - That's a lot of contestants for Anne to despatch before things get interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if the number of contestants gets whittled down if the format is ever picked up by a foreign broadcaster.

She replaced Marian Finucane on Crime Line a few years back and she wasn't the best on it. It wasn't long before she was booted off it.

No room for a new young recruit trying to get a break in tv ?

It was between Anne Doyle, Gay Byrne and Larry Gogan, so RTE decided it was time to give youth a chance :D

Edit: It's a fair point. Maybe it is easier to get something commissioned by RTE if you have an established RTE presenter attached.

Interesting, I don't remember that although the evidence exists

I remember it, having being so used to Marian. I don't think she even lasted a year on it. Anne just knows how to read off an autocue.

To be pedantic, her stint on Crimeline ended when the show metamorphosed into Crimecall.

That happened in 2004, and the still that Skid has linked to is from the beginning of 2001 - so you can't really say her stint was short, either.

I stand corrected. I stopped watching it after she came on board so I wasn't sure. I still call it Crimeline.

And you're probably not alone there. :)

After all, Crimecall is more or less the same as Crimeline - the only real difference, aside from the second part of the title, being the fact that it's made by a different production company. :)

do they get to know the category before they choose the question answer, cos otherwise don't see the game

Once you know the other half of the 16 get the bus home after the first round, it's really quite a simple concept........:)......

***runs behind couch laughing with the wine***..............:)

    :D

I hope they show the losing team getting on the bus after each round.

It could be Anne's catchphase -

"You're a loser you wuss - now get on the bus!"

    I'm glad you're here Skid!......

I hope they don't put the contestants in the Green Room first!...........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

I could see a punch up at some stage...

All you need are a couple of Bossy Boots!.....

I can see why it's an hour long - there is lot of chit chat!

The white background is very severe, it's very hard to look at if you are still recovering from last night,

The questions aren't exactly Mastermind so far!....

Yeah, the set is like a shed in an Industrial Estate....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭An Capall Dubh

Steeltech sheds must have sponsored the set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

This reminds me a little bit of Everybody's Equal with Chris Tarrant from a few years back. Glad the Blue Team were kicked off. Their team rep was an annoying git.

No Christmas cards for Sean so!........

I'm not sure I've seen a game show with worse production values in quite a while. Seems to be an odd attempt to cross reality TV with a quiz show.

The questions are a bit uneven - I think most people would have known the facebook one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Ah, I want to see them all do the walk of shame.....(I know, I'm horrible!).....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

How much were the garden sheds? :)

Why don't they just re make Know your Sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

    "The Taoiseachs"

    "What's that?"

    Oh dear

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

My first reaction was that it is very amateurish looking.

Did they dose the contestants with laxatives before the show? Lots of squatting and shuffling going on....

Beardy man is awestruck that someone thinks they could name every Taoiseach.

It's hardly that big a claim to make?

    Too many contestants.

They could start off with 8 v 8 and ask them all a question, then you might start to recognise who is skilled and who is not. Then start splitting the teams up.

    But Anne Doyle is good.

Gareth?? Not hard to get right you'd have thought....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

Does the overall winner win one of them sheds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

Or you could get each team to nominate the other team's player

i.e. they select the one they think knows nothing. That would stir it up a bit :)
