Will that mean that Corrie, Emmerdale, X factor, Dancing on Ice, I'm a Celebrity etc will no longer be on TV3?

I hope they show smutty european arthouse movies in the early hours like channel4 and tv3 used to do.

Given that, apparently, TV3 have come close to going bust a few times, is this a viable business?

It will be when they swallow up TV3.

They should have a station called TV Kenny where all the broadcasts and advertisements venerate our leader.

Devote the entire station to Vincent Browne, a 24 hour fly on the wall documentary where he roasts politicians alive in his secret dungeon.

Its amazing how TV shows that are shown simultaneously on another channel are so important to a channels wellbeing. Seems like a risky enough business model to me.

Not commercially viable. Considering the righteous howls of indignation that emerge from most of the drones around here when RTE and the TV licence are mentioned, I couldn't see that getting very far.

TV3 should produce their own soap about travellers. They can call it 'mobile home and away'.

You could argue the TV license should be used to pay for non commercial viable TV and let advertising pay for the popular stuff.

Maybe we should call it The Utterly Amazing Channel with like, amazing things on it :pac:

Ideally yes. But I dont think we'll ever have an Irish equivalent of BBC 3 or 4

Ideally this would allow TV3 to focus more on good home-grown programming as it can't compete on the soap front. Unfortunately, most of their home-grown programming tends to be complete garbage.

Both of the people who watch broadcast TV will be dead by 2015.

Bit risky in the already diluted market. Then again about 70% of this country watch awful ****e so it might work.

Hope we won't have to watch those shite Nordie ads like the Hughes car insurance ones or Menarys.

UTV always seemed far to artificial even by TV standards. The twee presenters and the whole airbrushed quality of the stations visuals always seemed so at odds with the reality of the north, and in my eyes it hadn't changed all that much. I actually can't stand to even glance at "The UTV" never mind suit down and watch it. I for one won't be watching the new channel.

    Glazers Out!

Didn't Sky News already try this a few years back and it didn't last. I know they were a news channel but the broadcast from utv in the north and here (if it arrives) will be the same save for the news programme. It probably wont be worth it after the dust settles and it may well spell the end of TV3.

They're only after the ad revenue anyway.

TV3 airs a lot of UTV shows, so I wouldn't be surprised if this does happen tbh.

Granada owned a stake in them for quite a period of time, and also held the franchise for 6 ITV stations (not UTV though). It's why they continue to broadcast plenty of ITV content. Must be worrying for TV3 knowing they are losing their marquee broadcast: Coronation Street.

This is, no doubt, what will happen following UTV's sales team offering a "2 for 1" deal when the station launches
