I'm confused as to what this exercise is. Do you elevate your front foot? If not, how does it differ from an elevated split squat?

    Any help appreciated

Are these not Bulgarian squats? Have a look on YT

Possibly. I know what these are, but I'd be surprised if the program got them mixed up. Just wondering if there is meant to be something different about the emphasis or technique involved.

    What's the program?

The programs from the Informed Performance gym that Will Heffernan used to run.

Elevated split lunge you just lunge with one leg raised and keeping your back straight.

Bulgarian split squat, your calve should touch your hamstring on downward phase and your upper body should go forward while keeping a straight back.

Your torso should stay upright for a split squat also.
I'm not sure what you mean by calve should touch hamstring.

The difference for me with normal lunges and split squats, would be that lunges has a forward movement that a split squat doesn't.
I'm not sure if that's what Will intended though. And I don't know how it carries over to elevated versions.

Thanks. I think I might get it now.

When doing a split squat your front foot stays out front during the entire set, whereas in an elevated lunge each rep involves stepping out front, completing the lunge and then stepping back to a starting position where the feet are close together?

Can't hurt to do it like this anyway.
