What products would you like to see Aldi and Lidl sell?

I do most od my shopping in Aldi and Lidl - good quality, low price, no crap music over the tannoy and really quick checkout.
I say most, because unfortunately, they don't stock some of the things I buy regularly :

Strong flour
Yeast
Soy cream
Meatless sausages/burgers/mince

These have me tramping out to Tesco about once a month, and I'd love to see either Aldi or Lidl (or even both!) epand their range to include those.
So what things are you missing from Aldi or Lidl?

Yes, it took a while here for most people to understand that you're not supposed to pack your bags and make others wait at the checkout - they've large areas set aside for you to pack everything up in your own time.

Now that people have copped on, I never spend more than a minute or two at checkout, I'm loving it!

That crap 'system' only works if you have a trolly - and for Aldi that means having a €2 coin - might as well be hen's teeth. If you are using a shopping bag, you have to pack at the checkout and Aldi's sucks for that.

I would like to see Lidl bring back those great Costa Rican and Peruvian coffee beans they haven't had for years now.

How has the fact that their customers need to go to Tesco for the rest of the shopping been part of the limited-range strategy that made them successful?

Some people aren't good at stuff. I was in Lidl yesterday, waiting for a non-cash user in front of me to get her card cleared. When I eventually got served, I had the last of my items in my bag less than 5 seconds after it was scanned.

I don't know why people have to take so much time. Same with ATMs. Put your card in, get yer money, then leave.

Er... no, still not following.
I realise they keep things cheap by offering a limited number of brands, which is totally fine by me and many others.
But they do have quite a wide range of products overall.

It drives me potty in Tesco and Supervalue, they seem to be actively encouraging these time-wasters. In Lidl and Aldi they will at least give them a filthy look and try stop them holding everyone up.

I want the pretzels back in the Lidl bakery, the only thing I actually like about Lidl is that bakery, never buy anything else in there, they used to do serious strawberry ice cream, I must check if they still do it next time I'm in there.

Aldi, fecking love it, where I do my weekly shop, don't do the buying of other crap in Tesco or dunnes, I'm all German these days. I wish they would open a bakery like Lidl so I didn't have to go to Lidl, I also wish they would bring back their frozen mashed potato, it was lovely and saved me a lot of bother.

I cant remember where I read it but those that analyse retail shopping looked at the produce range in a typical German discount shop in comparison to Tesco or Dunnes and it is far less maybe the discounters don't see the point in stocking some what niche produces, when stocking the basics is so successful, nearly everyone I know does most of the shop in on of the discounters and buys a small amount in Tesco or Dunnes.

I think Lidl are pursuing a very dangerous strategy. They seem to be going more down the branded route which is putting them in competition with Dunnes and Tesco. That shouldn't be their market and they'll lose out to those stores.

Aldi, on the other hand, do what they do very, very well by stocking mainly unfamiliar brands at lower prices with no real difference in quality.

Well, the ones I use the most (Parnell St., Dublin) have baskets now. Before that, I would grab a cardboard tray as I went in - there are always some around, since they're always restocking some shelves.

My first experience of this kind of shop was on a trip to Germany, and it was one of the most depressing shops I'd ever seen, perhaps because it was in a rundown area (Ratingen, outslde Düsseldorf). I only needed to buy a few things, thankfully.

I sometimes wish that you could pick up a decent laptop computer in these shops, but I know that wouldn't work, since any high-tech products require support ... and what kind of technical support would you expect from Lidl or Aldi? :cool:

They do sell computers from time to time,Medion afaik & they are usually pretty high spec.

I'm lucky in a way that my local Aldi & Lidl are literally beside each other so if I can't get something in one,I'll find it in the other.The only downside is that they stock certain things for a limited time & they then disappear.

Don't mind the checkouts as they fly through stuff on the scanners unless some eejit tries to hold the whole place up.My local Dunnes should send their staff up for training on how to run a till.

Would like to see cigarette at the register. Elsewhere in Europe they have cabinets above each register for cigarettes. Like that they have finally got baskets in their stores. It was something of a pet hate of mine to have to free a cardboard box from somewhere so I could carry everything. Assumed it was just one of those things, their way of doing things. When I saw they had baskets in other countries I was suddenly confused by the lack of baskets.The lack of baskets meant I spent less. Only so much could be carried in those box. Will be interested to see what aldi on Parnell st will look like after the refit.

No idea, but they were the best. They were cheap as hell too, I'd get loads of meals out of them. I really, really miss them

Another thing I really wish Aldi would do is Gluten Free cereal. Their gluten free bread is absolutely amazing for the price, and it's astonishing what GF bread goes for. GF cereals are insanely expensive sometimes, so I really wish they'd do a good cereal too
