Most melodious voice on tv/radio

To soothe my ears after reading the Most Annoying Voice on tv/radio, I'm going to listen to clips of Joanna Lumley for a while.

I would stand barefoot in the snow listening to Jeremy Irons, but I'm stuck trying to think of an Irish presenter or actor who has the same effect. Rosaleen Linehan has a lovely round tone, but that's just off the top of my head.

Who gives you an eargasm, or a big acoustic-hug?

(sorry if this has been done before.)

Sharon Ní Bheoláin saying the word 'police' ("pleece") but my dream is to hear her quote the line from Anchorman.

"Listen, there's three things I'm good at - fighting, screwing and reading the news!"

RTE News Reader (radio mainly now) Michael Murphy has a fantastic voice in fairness to him. Very, very listenable.

He has now retired, but Val Joyce who presented Late Date has a wonderful voice. There was always the impression he was sitting in a smokey studio, smoking a cigar, having a glass of red wine and struggling to put the stylus on the record.

For me, that's all about the context - Summer Sundays and himself buzzing like a bilingual bee from a radio in a car parked on a beach. :)

She's a bit old for me, but Joanna Lumley probably has the best voice I've ever heard. She could make anything sound fantastic!
Her accent's quite posh and plummy but it's not at all condescending and she really brings a huge amount of life to whatever she's saying / reading.

    Proper Bond character voice.

Probably why she's so sought after for VOs.

Mariella Frostrup on bbc radio has a lovely rich voice, she grew up in Wicklow so I'm sure that affected her accent.

here is Dimbleby with a lot of naked men in a bath.

He has a warm, authoritative, tone, and is infinitely sensible. You just want to listen to anything he says.

He's relentlessly upbeat but not exactly melodious. That Louise one that does the sport with him has an infectious laugh all the same.

I don't watch TV that much, but yes to Joanna Lumley. Also the late great James Mason.

I'll probably get ribbed about this, but also: Lindsay Lohan. She has a big raspy durty voice. :p

I don't have much time for Uncle Gaybo and his 'kindly uncle of the Nation' shtick, but he has a fine speaking voice. Pronounced, articulate and authoritative. The same goes for others of his generation such as Brendan Balfe, Rodney Rice and, to a lesser extent, Mike Murphy. The late Colm Murray also had a voice that was easy on the ear, and a passion for the Sport of Kings that came across in all his broadcasts.

All of the old thespians used to actively work on their enunciation and pitch so that their voices were wonderful on the ear.
Richard Burton definitely had the greatest voice I ever heard, but guys like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart also have fine voices.

Amongst the young, Benedict Cumberbatch has a phenomenal voice - again he started out in theatre before graduating to the TV/cinema.

Absolutely. Great to see her branch out into more lifestyle-type broadcasting as well as current affairs.

Rachael English also has a lovely and smooth, yet authoritative speaking voice and presentation style.

I found the voice of Michael MacNamara, Micky Mac quite easy on the ears.
He used to do the Dance Show on 2fm during the 90s he kinda had a way of making club nights and venue's sound posh and upmarket.

    He was very upbeat..

    He's now on Clare Fm

Michael C Hall did a voice over for a series on Vietnam, suited it very well in my opinion. As for best voice John Goodman has a great voice, Stephen Fry and David Attenborough are both great.
